What happened during the last 18 months?

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 11:37 pm

Hi fellows, reinstalling all after quite some time. About one and a half years. Instead of asking "what are the best mods these days", here's what I used to run:

- Of course some "Unofficial Patch" mod (believe that should be still around)
- Creature leveling fix (I ran Francesco's mod - there's also the "Realism mod", I believe. Never cared much for OOO, too much and too complicated for me.)
- Player leveling fix (tried the AF mod and GCD mod)
- Oblivion Mod Manager
- UI fix (Darn, I dont' remember the name).

Those five were the "must have", I wonder, any new absolutely must-have before starting a new game? Not looking for quest / house mods. Can add those later.

Also, have any of those above mentioned been "replaced" by mods better liked by the community?

Eye-candy - new "must have" recommendations? I see "Unique Landscapes" and "Better/Open cities" are still around and kicking. Will certainly get those two. Is there a texture pack that does it all? (High-res landscape, items, faces, hair, ...) - if not, I probably have to collect lots of those. Qarl is a name I remember.

Many questions ... thanks a lot in advance, any hints are highly appreciated!

cheers, PD

I'm a complete noob & I installed OOO easily using OBMM (well a MMMforOOO setup).

I used this guide http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/walkthroughs/mmmooo. The site contains lots of other stuff too, so give it a look even if you don't want OOO.

Hope this helps

Others have mentioned http://www.tesivpositive.animolious.com/. This should definitely be among your top-level bookmarks.

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1098740-relz-wrye-bash-thread-45/ and http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1084204-bain-mod-installation-projects/ is the future. Oblivion Mod Manager is still a fantastic utility, but hasn't been updated in some time.

Here are some good threads for mod ideas:

I know how you feel :P

I forgot my password for my old account here and eventually just quit playing Oblivion a year or so ago and then got this new laptop and reinstalled it.

All the things that I missed were crazy. But first of all you should head over to tesnexus.com and check out the Files of the Month and the Top 100. You'll be sure to find some things you like.

I also recommend FCOM. With all the tools available now and what not, its really not as big of a pain to install as it used to be. Its definitely worth it.

-New version of Povholo′s http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1098340-relz-kragenirs-death-quest-v20/

18 months ago the mod wasn't released yet. So it's more like, Pink Dragon is around, mod is a WIP, Pink Dragon leaves, V1.0 is released, several bug fix releases were done, another huge update came half a year later, and then Pink Dragon returned. :P

But as you're not interested in quest mods right now... I've just started my first serious playthrough in a long time (possibly around 18 months too), and I'm very enthusiastic about Emma's http://lovkullen.net/Emma/Vilja.htm. And Cliffworm's http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=31668.

http://www.tesnexus.com/modules/members/index.php?id=128339 has been releasing a couple of nice small tweaks lately. I especially like 'Door exploit begone' 'Phitts Damage Mulitiplier' and 'Less Knockback'.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25078 helps balancing the economy.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18305 for better weather.

Arthmoor released http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=31773

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16316, though sort of a quest mod, is great.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23208 is absolutely essential.

Also the epic German total conversion mod http://nehrim.de/indexEV.html was released a week or two ago. An English translation is in the works.

All part of the master plan :twirl:

Thanks for the hints!!!

Yep, I'm surely interested in quests and house/area-mods, it's just that for starting a new game, I first need stuff like leveling fixes, patches and the likes. I bet I'll end up with 255 mods soon enough ... :obliviongate:

Remember, that 255 limit is only for concurrently used mods, that many mods can be merged, ...

If you play more than one character, you can install mods specifically for a character and use Wrye Bash profiles to swap them in and out. I started of using that feature for body replacers but I'm making more use now for mods for Thieves, mods for Mages, mods for Tanks and so on.

Hehe ... well, I believe of 100 hours dealing with Oblivion, I must have spent 99 fiddling around with mods (searching, installing, testing, comparing, tweaking, ...).

:toughninja:

Mmm back to the original post: What's considered the best replacement textures these days? I used Qarl's Texture Pack something and lots of Connary's stuff ...

QTP 3 is the best at the moment and nothing seems to replace it.
For city needs you can try better cities (I don't post the link because someone posted previously).

I'm not so useful because I have a low-end machine and I don't use much graphical stuff.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23783, http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18305, http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2536, http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6914, http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23064 and a sort of lava replacer are the environment replacer mod I personally use. You can also try http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8927.

Not much FPS Impact and good visual effect

Many thanks for the TGND suggestion, never though I would stop using HGEC, but instant switch : ) I really hope more and more clothes/armours get converted to it overtime (MMM/OOO/etc)
