I went into the chapel in Bravil recently, quite far into the game, and found blood everywhere and the altars all dead. There is no priest there or anyone hanging around. Near the beginning of the game, it was all right. I can't figure our what happened there or if there is a quest connected with it.
Does anybody know the answer?

It sounds to me like you're partway through the Knights of the Nine quests.
