Why did the DEV's kill off all the dwarves? if memory serves me right dwarves are the the toughest race there is.

Dwarves don't exist like you're thinking of in the elder scrolls. Play morrowind, it shows you what happened to the Dwarves (as much as anyone knows). You even get to meet one. And you see their ghosts which are tall elven looking gents. They left alot of clock work junk around, and some cool steampunk robots.

There aren't any hobbitses either ;) We got beastmen and four types of man and 3 types of elves including dark elves. Not a bad trade really.

Maybe in Middle Earth but not on Tamriel. Dwarves Dwemer are a race of Elves in Elder Scrolls. They were the most technologically advanced and well, that led to their downfall.

They all svcked their souls into a Giant Stompy Robot in a bid for gestalt godhood. The godhood bit didn't quite work out.

I'd love to see the Dwemmer return to the TES series as a living race, especially after the dragon prophecy has run it's course. Perhaps now that we are entering a new era (Post Septim Bloodline), we will see their return? I certainly hope so...

The Dwemer were merely a plot instrument in Morrowind used to explain the existence of the Wraithguard. I do think that it was seminal how Bethesda avoided incorporating too many fantasy stereotypes into the game by making the Dwemer extinct, although it would have been interesting to meet Dwemer other than Bagarn.

i would like the short little dwarves back. how cool would it be to be a dwarf. not to mention the armor and weapons you could build, they are the masters of smithing. they are also little balls of killing fury.

I might argue the reverse, that Wraithguard was a plot instrument, along with keening and sunder, to extrapolate detail and dimension regarding the Dwemer.

Not really. Cliche fantasy is cliche. I find it's more interesting to explore the ruins of a legacy of "dwarves" that are atheistic god-building elves (in a land where gods are more or less tangible), rather than chargin the front lines with a short stumpy bearded alcoholic berserker.

Ha. That's not really how Morrowind was written.

You think they designed an entire race, with dozens of pieces of literature, dungeons, weapons, armor and runic language, just to set up an insignificant quest item?

The Dwemer explain the existence of the entire MQ. They are vital to the setting and the plot. They created the tools that created Dagoth Ur and the Tribunal both.

And the story of their disappearance gets deep into the details of the esoteric inner working of the universe.

They're also dead, and they're not coming back.

Even though Dwarves are my favorite race in your average run of the mill high-fantasy setting, TES is not your typical run of the mill high fantasy RPG (despite what Oblivion would have you believe). So yeah, in spite of them being my favorite, I'm glad they took a different approach and wouldn't trade the tall TES "Dwarves" for anything.

In DandD sure. In tamriel the closest thing i can think of (ie a shorter race)would be the monkey men of the akaviri possibly. Not alot has been mentioned of them. But none of the akavir are a race, its still the classic elder scrolls ten race package according to GI.

The Dwemer were introduced in Redguard, actually. They've been a part of Tamriel lore since before Morrowind. Or was it Daggerfall they were introduced? At any rate, Redguard is the first game where you actually see/interach with Dwemer technology.

*sigh* The short little dwarves can't come back because they never existed in Elder Scrolls. Bethesda decided to actually be slightly original when they created their fantasy world.

Same. Especially when you consider Morrowind was not the first Elder Scrolls title to feature the Dwemer.

The Dwemer were svcked into an interspatial rift when they tried to mix games by importing http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Liberty_Prime into Tamriel.

(Let that be a lesson to everyone who makes a suggestion including "like in Fallout 3"- remember what it cost the Dwemer!) :D

Running the risk of ripping off Fallout, I would love to see a Dwemer vault opening up at some point in TES chronology and having them gradually repopulate the series with each progressive game in the series.

It's not a matter of simply having some hiding out, as though only bigger portions of the population were killed off by some plague or what-not.
They unmade their entire race* by attempting to return to the Dawn.

*Excepting Ser Bagarn, and he's got no companion to repopulate with. Not that corprus'd be that endearing even if he did.

They were written out of existence, they can also be written back into existence. Retcons happen all the time. If none could remain in Tamriel, would there be Dwemer NPCs in Morrowind?

They can make TES V a Barbie Horse Adventures crossover if the way to. Get my point?

Also, the Dwemer NPC singular in Morrowind was called the Last Living Dwemer.
