How Would He Be Interfering With Time?

He Knew He Was Going To Die Before And He Knew that The Gates Of Oblivion Would Open so He Could Have Prepared Better For It.

he didn't always know that he was going to die. if he knew a week before he couldn't do anything about the forts. besides, have you seen cyrodiil's military lately? they can barely muster enough men to defend their cities, much less garrison a hundred forts out in the middle of no-where.

yes, i know. gameplay arguments = lame.

You Are Right About The Military Being Useless But If You Listen At The Beginning He Says He Has Had These Dreams All His Life, You Would Think It Would Be Enough Time To Get Those Imperial Legion Orcs And Soldiers That Are ment To be so good to come over and stay at the forts to help against Invasion!

It's bizarre, as if we're expecting to put some significance on each word. What? You only talk in proper nouns?

Anyway, no the Emperor has not been receiving fatalistic dreams all his life. You misunderstood the intro.

also, putting people in the forts doesn't really help against the invasion at all. most forts in cyrodiil are located in out-of-the-way locations that have no strategical military importance. same with the gates: most of them pop up in the wilderness where they threaten no-one. if anything, the emperor should have directed more forces towards the defense of cities (or to his own personal bodyguard to prevent the assassination in the first place).

Although this is just a personal observation, I believe the forts appear to have been stepped on by a great big foot due to the way they seem to have been collapsed.

For arguments sake, why would anyone leave forts on chokepoints of the Niben abandon?

Isn't there a vested interest in the protection and safety of merchants heading in continent?

In response, I would point out that the Imperial Legion patrols the roads. Additionally, it appears to be a common Fighter's Guild contract to be an escort, which helps the economy.

I will admit that the aforesaid answers may not entirely satisfy the query, but they are, at least, reasonable, which is all that is preliminarily required my JHUNAL the Great.

Uriel meant that he had prophetic dreams, not that he had oblivion crisis dreams all his life. Besides, maintaining those forts would be damn expensive, especially sense only a few have strategic value. Also, sense most of the legion is in the provinces, they simply lack the manpower to staff those facilities anyway.

They're too broke to even light the palace properly.

...and they're sitting in the middle of a giant spike that svcks pure energy from Oblivion. Us? Light a few lamps? Heck no.

Lord Lovidicus had a fort until fairly recently. That one fell apart pretty quickly. Unless he enjoyed living in ruined tunnels with his servants and what he thought would be his wife. Or is the Gray Prince really really old? You'd think he would have noticed something was odd if he had been there quite a long time without aging.

I don't think the Gray Prince is very old.. However, there is really no telling how old Lovidicus might have been, though. Even if it's improbable, there is the possibility that he might have been both vampire and "mad" for a very long time. Maybe the fort fell apart around him as the years went by, while he did nothing about it. Over the years, his servants fled and abandoned him, and it fell apart even more.
However, this still requires a span of quite many years.

Perhaps Lovidicus bought the Fort in it's current state, aiming to restore it.

That's probebly more a matter of having to use the available meshes as decoration for the story. The meshes from the cities because those are all unique, so that only leaves the ruined fortresses.

Even if alot of the forts are in out of the way places and thereby pretty useless, it doesn't make much sense they also didn't preserve or restored they forts were the road actually enters the fort. I mean those spots would have been perfect to provide a safe heaven for travelers and merchants at night and to get a little coin in the form of toll for keeping the roads safe. Leaving them empty is basicly asking for bandits to please set up camp there.

Ofcourse it was just for gameplay reasons, but that doesn't make it less weird :P.

They should restore forts that are placed at good locations, close to the road or a city.
Mages and Fighters guild could use them. Or rich people could buy them restore them and live in them.

Anything is better than just leaving them in the wildernes so that vampires and marauders can live in them. :nono:

Maybe Bethesda is just a bunch of @#(%@%$ and they made the forts as ruins because they think anything older than 200 years must be in ruins, despite what it is.
Shows how much thought they actually put in to it, huh?

Legion Soldier 1: The Daedra will never pierce the walls of this fort boys. We are set. I can see it now. A good twenty years of legion service guarding this patch of ground in the middle of nowhere. Then the retirement bonuses kick in. Yup, the legion will be paying me back for all this work.

Legion Soldier 2: Sir! Messager just arrived, the Imperial City has been sacked!

Legion Soldier 1: Wut!? How! We have.. well... Legions!

Legion Soldier 2: Negative sir, they were all reassigned to... this fort.

Legion Soldier 1: Well quick, lets mount a counter attack!

Legion Soldier 2: It would take 2 days to get to any city in the province from here.

And so, the world ends. Yay forts.

The players needed some place to explore and there weren't Dwemer in Cyrodil.
