What happened to the Lore Buffs?

Post » Tue Jul 31, 2012 10:42 am

I came upon http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1395028-divayth-fyr/ topic today which was posted a little while ago. It was an earnest post by a new member to this community. The topic contained 3 questions which all related to Divayth Fyr, one of the oldest figures in the Elder Scroll world.

I will emphasize one question which was only answered with "Well, IDK but in my opinion blah blah blah".
"3) Did he know Nerevar, Vivec, Almalexia and Voryn Dagoth? (I know he was friends with Sotha SIl.)"

Easy enough question and this poor guy just wanted an answer. But there are no lore buffs to be seen! The only people who tried to answer the question have been the same people battling for post counts for months now-Legate_Clodius, Dargor, and Lord Harkon.

Is this how the Elder Scrolls Lore section dies?

This place was a haven of information. Where are Dogsbody, Hellmouth, Lady N, Mehrunes Dagon (the member), Lord Tidus, Hairdo Galosh Jam, or even the esteemed Proweler?

I've been away for awhile and going through http://www.gamesas.com/user/20899-mk/'s last few posts really saddens me. Maybe his leaving marked the end?

Logically, it's the right place to post the questions. But typically, many of us who know the lore hang around the game-specific pages rather than here. If I'd found the question about Divayth Fyr over in the Morrowind forums which I visit regularly, for example, I would have answered. Can't speak for anybody else--but you're correct, "in my opinion" has nothing to do with the matter. Lore is lore.

Actually, I want to know that myself.

Anyways, to answer your question, I don't think we know if he knew AYEM/VEHK/SEHT, but I'd be surprised if he didn't. And when I say, I don't think we know, I mean there are no books and stuff on it, so conjecture is all we have.

Harkon never commented on that particular post. Dragor has been here since 2011. Legate is quite a fantastic poster. How are they not worthy of being lore buffs?

This place was a haven of information. Where are Dogsbody, Hellmouth, Lady N, Mehrunes Dagon (the member), Lord Tidus, Hairdo Galosh Jam, or even the esteemed Proweler?
All these people are still here. They still post.

And this isn't a private club you know, new people can be lore buffs too.

That particular question can only be answered with speculation. The only information we have on Fyr beyond game play, is a couple of RP sessions written by a developer. So, yes, it's going to be answered with opinions.

MK still posts every once in a while, but under the account name Merry Eyesore the Elk.

Kourumi, I think we have very different ideas on what lore buffs are. And I should have noticed Harkon was not in that one, all three are in just about every other thread.

Fable2, what site do you use or do you mean these forums?

Colossus, that is hilarious.

I do agree that we haven't been in our lore-ing prime for a bit, but this forum is by no means "dying". The Elk is still here, just probably busy with his day job.

Wait, I've been doing what now? That poster asked a question and I answered it to the best of my ability. And on the third question, there was no hard proof that Fyr did have any contact with Nerevar and the Tribunal before the heart. I'm not seeing the problem here mate.

Honestly, the pillars of the lore community are still here.
They may not be on as frequently, because between real life, answering the same questions weekly and the rude attitudes of some of the casual players, it can be wearisome.

I miss our psuedo-rps to discuss lore. I really do.

Well I can usually answer most 'normal' lore questions but Skyrim killed my interest in playing the games for the moment so I rarely post here anymore.

There are plenty of other posters outside of those you mentioned with extensive lore knowledge fully capable of answering almost any question that pertains to what we know of the lore. Unfortunately not a whole lot is known about some questions because the information just is not there. So speculation backed with a little bit of 'hard' lore is all that can be given.

I myself have been away from the Lore Forum until I can get Dawnguard. I don't want to have anything spoiled, and without that DLC, some of my lore knowledge isn't fully up to date.

Edit: Both Tidus and myself have been spending a lot of our recent time on the Elder Scrolls RP and Fanfiction forum.

Sorry to have forgotten you. My list was and is incomplete. There are many lore buffs.

Dargor I did not mean any offense. You know more than me, but the question was not about before the heart. Trials of Vivec and all there is a very good possibility that they did have some sort of communication.
The old lore buffs that would log on to these forums would add conjecture and quote in way that seemed an entirely different language. You three being the most common names I see within the past few pages(add in WerewolfVampire), no threads resemble an ounce of that.

I'm Hairdo, actually. I forgot my old password or something. It's been a while.

I appreciate the colorful version of myself that you apparently see. It's interesting how different human beings perceive reality differently. I'd like to visit your universe sometime. It sounds more interesting than mine. See, from my point of view I've never actually made a post just for the sake of increasing my post count because I literally do not care about that sort of thing. Maybe you'll disagree, but I'm pretty sure I know more about myself than you do. Thanks for pretending to like me while simultaneously insulting me, though. I believe that's the first time I've ever seen someone insult one mask I wear while praising another. Has my posting style changed so much?

Go to any forum (or indeed anywhere) and you will find people answering objective questions with answers that start with I like to think/In my opinion etc. That problem is by no means specific to this forum.

It's not a problem. It's honesty: acknowledgement of the fact that we don't know.

I wouldn't even consider that a problem here. If someone has a very interesting personal interpretation of the lore that's amusing to read, I'm all for hearing it. Bethesda only used about 5% of the ideas Michael was tossing around for Skyrim lore, but every single thing he writes is golden. We'd be worse off if we didn't get those sorts of personal interpretations of Tamriel now and then.

Legate_Clodius: It's the same old story, that old = good and new = bad. Not really such a unique or fantastic frame of view. You'd probably be quite bored.

As for the OP's question, I'm hardly an old face around here, and even less a "lore buff", but even I get tired of seeing the same inane trivia questions pop up time and time again that have no concrete answer and have no real room for discussion.

And I've seen Hellmouth, Lady N, Tidus, and Proweler posting here literally within the past week, so not sure what OP's complaining about.

I suppose. I was simply pointing out that the frequency and content of my posts does not significantly change from one screen name to the next. To my knowledge my posting style is identical to the way it was on a previous account, but the OP somehow perceives vast differences. There really does seem to be a tendency around here to assume anything or anyone new is bad or inferior to anyone or anything old. Also, I'm not sure there's a [censored] smiley in the world that can properly illustrate how it makes me feel on the inside to be compared to Harkon.
