What happened to the Mystary Engine and Project Jefferson?

Post » Thu Dec 02, 2010 2:38 am

Does gamesas still hold the rights for this engine? Does it still have the software data of project Jefferson (Baldur's Gate 3: the black hound) stored somewhere?

I wonder if it would be possible to ressurect the ex-Baldur's Gate 3 project that was canned a few years ago even if this was done as a non-lucrative module/game. I know a few people who would be interested in buying the project.

They don't have the license for any further DnD related games, so the material in likely unusable. Theres currently a Baldurs Gate 3 module being worked on for NWN2 if I'm not mistaken. Although that could be something I dreamt.

J.E. Sawyer, the lead designer of Jefferson, is working on recreating it as a free NWN2 module. The Vault - Fallout Wiki * Fallout Online * Fallout IRC Channel * Fallout: New Vegas

No, it's not really related to the old Baldurs aside from also being set in the Forgotten Realms setting and (originally) having a similar style of gameplay. The real title of the game was "The Black Hound", but it had to be named "Baldur's Gate 3: The Black Hound" because at that time "Baldur's Gate" was the only D&D title gamesas had the rights to.

J.E. Sawyer is working on it in his free time, and he's pretty busy working on other games for a living, so I wouldn't expect it to come out soon.

Anyway, here's more info:

They might still have the engine. However, some of the art assets were supposedly sold to Obsidian Entertainment.

I wonder if Sammael's Jefferson archive is still around? That thing was huge.
