What happened to this promise Bethesda?

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 7:55 am

It just goes to show what kind of state this world is in. Now we have to argue prejudice and gay rights etc in a video game. I honestly think some of you need to step outside and try the air. It is a game...

Y'think maybe that rather than lying, perhaps things changed during the development? Once they say something during development, does that become an ironclad commitment that they're bound to stick to, even if they decide they don't like the idea any more?

The announcement happened just about a month prior to release...

The Development stage would be roughly 5-4 years ago.

I'm sure that years from now my children will come to me and ask me where I stood on the deeply important issue of prejudice against cat people.

Seriously, using the word 'prejudice' in this thread demeans all the groups who suffer real prejudice in real life.

Posting this here in the absence of an ingame-related suggestion/complaint forum.

http://geek.pikimal.com/2011/08/25/gay-marriage-confirmed-in-skyrim-prepare-for-breakdown-of-society/

According to several pre-release sources we were promised that we could "marry anyone" (and) "regardless of race or gender." however, I am sorely disappointed, and fairly vexed, to find that the list of marriage capable NPC's does not contain any Khajiit or Bosmer canditates of either gender. (Also apparently no High elf males are available.)

Why is this so Bethesda?
Don't say racism. Because my character should not be forced to have a racist view of the world around her, even if many of skyrims citizens hold this.
Don't say it is because of the low number of their races, because you could certainly have put more in.

I had high hopes for the marriage system, but now it is somewhat breaking my immersion. Especially because, as a khajiit, it is very hard to imagine why no khajiit could ever be interested in my character.

I'm very much hoping there will be (sometime soon) a patch to include these races in the marriage system.

(PS. guys, I'm not bashing the game. Skyrim is definately deserving to be the game of the decade. Which is exactly why I want this system to be corrected. As the marriage system stands now it is only better than the Fable system because it has more than 1 race.)

It isn't the only promise they failed to do.

Go ahead, derail this thread even more than it has.

This is about an incomplete feature in Skyrim. People who play as Bosmer or Khajiit are forced to inter-racial marry if they want to access the marriage features.

Besides the in-game racism, what I meant with prejudice is the people replying to this thread only to pick on minority groups like "furries". Or indeed any 'unfortunate' player who decides to play a non-"generic human" character. (be it imperial, nord or breton.)

Don't pretend this prejudice doesn't exist, it is evident in previous (and likely future) posts on this very thread.
Sure, its not as bad a prejudice as blacks or jews etc, but a prejudice just the same.

Now, as Luke Skyrimmer said above me, I'd like this thread to return to its Core.

I thought it was because the Bosmer and the Khajiits run off a different religion.

I heard Khajiits have like this whole pack mother thing going on and she is in charge and gets to decide who marries who.

As for the bosmer i dont no why exactly but i think its that whole cannibal thing on top of having their own beliefs. .

This is all hearsay so I could be wrong but it makes sense to me. Just doesn't explain why their aren't any high elf males that you can marry.

And i think the reason marriage is boring to you in skyrim is because you can sack citys and fight a FREAKIN DRAGON...... so going home and snuggling up with your partner ....( or partmer hehe ).... is gunna feel lackluster compared to the epic s**t you normally do, regardless of how deep it is.

Oh yea and they didn't promise anything...( well besides a ridiculously long game with a boat load of content and an incredibly immersive world. Witch they delivered on. )

They probably had it that you could marry anyone but it created too many bugs .... so instead of being able to marry everyone, you have a list of like 40 you can choose from ... not a bad backup plan for something that was not even needed in the game

While I see what you're getting at is that I don't think just adding a bunch of extra characters would be that easy.

For example where would you put them? Whiterun? Riften? That would require more housing or rooms.

Also I think the radiant AI in oblivion was also advertised a few months before being released. (again I think I can't remember that far back)

Sometimes you just want to fight for people you care about. Instead of doing it for the glory.

There may be at least one or two Khajiit somewhere. I would not know as the world is so large and I have yet to find an orcish stronghold.

Yes there are a few Khajiit companions, but none that you can marry.

Yeah, and then they had already been working on and fine tuning the radiant AI for about a year or more.
There are plenty of room to place Khajiits, there's only 3 (or 4) Khajiits in the caravan stopping outside Whiterun. Plenty of countryside areas to place anyone. If they would just bother fixing this, they would definately find a possible place.

I always take time to answer questions or sort out misconceptions. I don't care what way it changes anyones views on it, but I hope it is for the better.

And this Thread is still about this Incomplete feature. So I would prefer it if people kept their mind on the original subject.

Basically OP plays as Khajiit and finds no marry-able khajiit NPC.
OP could get more sympathy actually if the Original Post it self did not derailed in the first place.
Though I agree that this could be a serious thread, I wouldn't go to derailing it to Marketing and promise breaking stuff. Some vultures even joined. *sigh*

Anyway it would easily fixed with DLC/expansion.

Who cares? Its not like marriage is an incredibly deep or complex mechanic in the game anyway.

-That is basically the core of the matter, yeah.

-If you mean the original post, i don't see how it rerails. But if you mean me. Sure, but not for long and only to correct misconception. That in my eyes is acceptable, all I needed to say on that matter has now been said, anyway.
I mean, if people went about misqouting the gravitational theory, even someone arguing the theory of relativity should be allowed a short derail.

-Or preferably, just a patch. shouldn't have to pay for a DLC of something they promised us in the original release. *shakes head* Now, if the DLC was free as a kind of kissing the scratch manner, i wouldn't mind it being a whole DLC.

I think it's more about keeping the release date than anything else. "Let the game suffer, we must make that date."
