What happens when a Daedra dies in Oblivion?

Post » Fri Dec 24, 2010 5:04 pm

Hey everyone, I was working on a mod involving exploring a small new section of the Deadlands, and it got me thinking, what happens to a Daedra when it dies while still in Oblivion? I know that Daedric beings are immortal and that when they're killed on Tamriel they are sent back into the void. But they're already there when they die in Oblivion. What happens to all those Daedra you kill in the gates? Do they just get sent further into the Void?

Thanks for any clarification!

They go to the waters of oblivion which is apparently a very unpleasant place for them. Daedra that are aligned with a prince can find their way back out quicker, hence why they usually team up with one.

http://www.imperial-library.info/content/battlespire-spirit-daedra covers it from a Dremora's point of view.

Yes, but what about Daedric Princes? Only an Aedra could destroy a Daedra, right? So if Akatosh decided to go to the Deadlands and kill Mehrunes Dagon, what would happen?

What about them? They're their realm (daedra prince = prince's realm = daedra prince = prince's realm = etc). Also, the aedra are in no way in hell in ANY condition to defeat a prince, as they all pretty much gave an arm and a leg (literally and figuratively) to create Mundus. The only one that really could is possibly Akatosh, as he does eventually devour everything. Hell, there really has been no mention of anyone being removed from existence during this point, unless they zero sum (don't ask, mortals only).

What I'm saying is that IF a Daedric Prince was defeated while inside their realm, would they just be reborn, or would they be destroyed, and their realm with it. Of course, something that never made sense to me, was that the Champion of Cyrodiil became ruler of the Shivering Isles, but yet, he/she wasn't really a Daedric Prince. So, when Jyggalag left to complete the Greymarch, when he was defeated, how could the Isles even exist anymore? Confusing to me. :P

They are the realm, the realm is them. That silly Scottish man on the throne of madness is nothing more than an avatar for mortals to comprehend. They have all the power in their realm, for they are the realm. If another prince went to another prince's realm or Mundus, it has to be in the form of an avatar, because they cannot physically be there as they are the realm.

http://www.imperial-library.info/content/morrowind-monomyth It has some bits how they formed their realms.

If that's the case, wouldn't the Shivering Isles be dead?

You're just killing an avatar.

Sheogorath left, the Champion became regent,

No, the champion became the realm as the new Sheogorath through some mythic mumbo jumbo you need to bush up on.

then Jyggalag was defeated, so the essence of the Isles would be destroyed, right?

No, as I said earlier he is no longer Sheogorath, the Champion of Cyrodiil is Sheogorath. Jyggy is now Jyggy.

Perhaps the realms aren't the princes themselves, but rather shaped by and bound to the Princes. Hence why Jyggalag could be defeated, because by becoming the new Prince of Madness his link to the Realm was severed.

In addition, there's a third player in the Shivering Isles; the Tree of Madness itself. To be the Prince of Madness, the player must be bound to it. And it seems that the player's Sheogorath powers are derived from it as well.

In the Deadlands, Akatosh is Mehrunes Dagon. The two belong to the same Divine Center, which realms, Daedric and Mundane, lie upon.

What is bound to, is. I don't see the line.

I agree. The Prince is the personification of the Tree. This Tree is the protonymic, and that is the borrowed rubric from the Convention. No doubt the reason why Sheogorath kept it obscured.

So if Akatosh decided to go to the Deadlands and kill Mehrunes Dagon, what would happen?
Assuming that Akatosh can unfurl himself enough from the Mundus (causing untold amounts of chaos there) to project himself into Oblivion. Assuming that he can sustain himself and keep himself together while he gets close to me. Assuming that he still has enough power to curb-stomp my avatar. Assuming that he can then protect himself from my final curse, what would happen? I would be without an Avatar. I might be scattered over Oblivion and it would take me some time to collect myself. But not terribly much would change.

Also, Aedra aren't the only ones who can destroy a Daedra's avatar. See the Battlespire's storyline. A mortal managed to venture into Oblivion and destroy my avatar.

And another mortal managed to permanently banish you back to your Deadlands. It sure is a good thing, because I have taken control of Dawn's Beauty. I may have been a mortal, but now I am a Daedra.

Daedric Princes cannot be destroyed. They can only be moved or changed. Think of them like matter and energy. Everything is conserved.

Also, Akatosh wouldn't do that. I'm not even sure he could go to Deadlands. The Aedra and Daedra exist in different shells of Aurbis.

In The Isles, the Dark Seducers/Golden Saints say that a Wellspring leads them back to the realm of Sheogorath as a great light. (It was like this, not exactly.)

So I guess you're right. But I also think, they stay aligned to one Prince.

No, the daedra are relatively mercenary.

I wonder if realigning to another Prince changes them psychologically.

Neither the Golden Saints nor the Dark Seducers seem to embody Madness that much. In fact, compared to everybody but Haskill, Sheogorath, and Dyus, really, I'd say they have a pretty good handle on what's going on, and are coordinated enough (at times) to put up a determined resistance. They seem quite receptive to madness, because they've been there quite a long time.

For that matter, none of the Dremora seem to embody Destruction (to the extent that you can't dismiss their destructive tendencies as 'paying homage to their lord', so to speak). In fact, the few Dremora we've spoken to seem to me to be more focused on honor and superiority to mortals.

No, I mean their masters embody their values. They choose, if I understand.

For one or several billion of the infinite spirits to shift alignment can be chalked-up to business or pleasure. For the race itself to realign, I could only attribute that to revolution.

While Aka and shor are the biggest Et'ada (Time and space) and so still have a larger infinity than that of some daedra.

They have'nt worked for Sheo for that long; Seducers belonged to Dagon for a while (during battlespire)

I always thought that Dremora should defect to Hircine; they focus on the hunt.

I always figured that not all Seducers work for Sheogorath. Likewise, I figured that not all Daedroths work for Molag Bal, not all Spider Daedra work for Mephala, and not all Hungers work for Boethiah.

I'm working on finding moments to actually use the name I'm sitting on to add some flavor, as opposed to just catching the occasional jab with it. It's a work in progress, but I promise it'll be a lot less annoying than when I exclusively did it... don't know if anyone except Proweler and co might remember that time.
