There are several factors that plays into where the soul goes in TES. A 'default' it you will, is the Dreamsleeve, where souls get recycled . If you also worship a certain Daedraic prince, there is a chance you will be pulled into their realm when you die. Valiant Nords who die a heroic death are granted entrance into Sovngard, a sort of Valhalla.

What do you mean recycled?
are deadric servants actually their former deadric worshipers ?

There isn't really a Heaven or Hell. It is believed in most, if not all, cultures of TES that there is an afterlife, although it is presumably all the same afterlife with different names, stories, and concepts surrounding it depending on the different races/pantheons. The most common name for it is the Dreamsleeve. If you wandered here because of Skyrim, you've probably heard the Nords talking about Sovengarde - that's their version of the Dreamsleeve.

Hope that helps :) The metaphysics of TES are very deep and confusing to get into, so it can be tricky to find a short and simple explanation for things.

They are basically stripped down to their bare essentials, memory, identity, and all, and are eventually reborn back into the world. Think of it as reincarnation if you will.

It depends. Here's a flow chart.

1) At the time of your death, were you under the influence of a soul trap spell or soul snare? If so, your soul is now in the possession of the one who trapped it. If you weren't, proceed to step 2.

2) Are you the servant of a daedric prince? If yes, you go to their respective realm. If no, proceed to step 3.

3) Do you have any reason to remain on Nirn? Vengeance on your killer, perhaps? Then you remain as a ghost. If not, go to step 4.

4) Your spirit goes into the dream sleeve where your soul is mixed in with others and lost. From this soul solution new souls are formed and born on Nirn as new individuals.

Sovngarde is still up in the air, at the moment.

Definitely. Think about it. The Deadlands are almost anything but. It's a realm of constant destruction, revolution, change, and creation. Land is continuously being made, destroyed, and made again. There's nothing stagnant or persistent at all about it. Nothing is ever the same. If you were a follower of Dagon, it would totally be your thing.

Interesting but it seems to much like hell for my taste.

Hell would involve torture and punishment for ones misdoings, that has nothing to do with the realm of Mehrunes Dagon. Believe it or not, despite his sphere, he's really not a bad guy. Assuming you go by the traditional belief of what hell looks like, I guess you could make that comparison with all the fire and what not, but if you go by Dante's Inferno its much more varied and twisted, again, nothing like The Deadlands.

The Raga wanna' reach the Far Shores.

Nords desire to drink and fight in Sovngarde.

Imperials, and probably Bretons, seek everlasting peace in Aetherius.

Dunmer, apres-vie, tend to go into the fencing industry ( :hubbahubba):

The rest, we really don't know much about.

Molag Bal's realm is probably the closest to any modern understanding of what a "hell" would look like, in that it probably operates on prison rules, 24/7.

Which, you might actually be okay with, assuming you thought you were going to be a "top". :whistling:

There is no real "heaven", at the very least. Even being svcked into the realms of daedric lords may not be permanent.

What is meant by "recycling" is, rather, Reincarnation.

Your soul is created out of Aetherius (the portal to which is the sun, and the sun is named Aehterius), which is a wellspring of pure endless possibilities that exist beyond time. It is also the stuff that magic is made from. Magic is basically the soul of a person who was never born and never became an individual.

When the normal (non-daedric claimed) souls die, and they do not choose to stay in the world to haunt the world or get trapped by a soul gem or anything, they are sent back to Aetherius through the Dreamsleeve, which essentially strips them of their mortal mind and converts them back into the "magic" state of not having a true soul, but rather being part of the infinite possibilities of being souls.

From there, eventually, you possibly will be reincarnated again, if your soul-stuff happens to get drawn upon when a new being is born, and it needs a new soul.

In one of the other threads, we were actually talking about how your "mind", and your "consciousness" is actually a part of your soul, as well. That is, your physical brain is not the center of thought - all memories, emotions, and personality are contained totally in the soul, and if you are killed, your soul can still think and behave almost entirely as you would have when you were alive.

The second part of that sentence isn't honestly necessary.
It takes all sorts to make a realm of [censored], if you know what I mean.

Molag Bal would be a cellmate for eternity! And he's the Prince of molestation.

Yeah, Dagon isn't exactly a benevolent prince. You see how his servants where treated in "Paradise?". Dipped in lava and tortured.

All I know is I wouldn't want to spend eternity being molag bal's [censored].

My best bet is Hircine's realm. After reading the Infernal City and seeing how werebears and werewolves hunt down the inhabitants, I would definetly want to spend eternity in his realm...only if I was a loyal werewolf/Hound in Nirn.

That's just part of the ritualized purification process to prepare his servants to rule the new world. To be baptized in blood and fire...

Also, if the Shivering Isles are anything to go by (specifically the graveyard outside New Sheoth), if you die in a Daedric realm, you can become a ghost (at the whim of your Prince) or go on to the Dreamsleeve, as per usual.
