What happens when you hit someone?

Post » Wed Nov 03, 2010 9:13 am

in oblivion ther emight be a splash of blood or something, but no real damage to taht part of th ebody and no reeling back from the hit.
in the trailer i saw the skeleton get hit in the face and it getting smashed back...is that cutscene or gameplay? and will hitting something have a little more dramatic an animation in skyrim?

ACCORDING TO the trailer, then if you hit something it will take damage and it may react to it by something like backing away from you like that spider you could see, or the skeleton getting his face smashed, but it will not deal real damage to that part of the body (obvious by looking at the spider), at least there will be blood splatters tho. they weren't really focusing on damage to body parts in this game but it would've been awesome

I think it's been said in many magazines that the impacts look and feel more real now. So when you smash someone their body reacts more naturally to the hits.

They said they have reworked combat from the bottom up, so when you hit people now, it should really feel like you hit them.

I think Todd said one some interview that combat in Oblivion felt like "fighting with chopsticks". I think that means that exactly this issue has been noticed and will be fixed.

Yeah....the animations from what we've seen so far look alot more impressive. That in turn will make combat look and feal more realistic. How individual body parts react to hits,we'll have to wait and see,but from the bits of info we have and from what we've seen in the trailer it bodes well. This is something we'll find out more about later on. There is lots of great stuff we don't know about yet. :)

PS: Love your avatar. But a word of advice: Do not jump into the water from a decent height, your argonian character could cause a tsunami
Know as the "belly flop of death" in argonia :)

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned of when the guy slapped the dragon across the face with his sword, did you see how the dragon reacted? That was pretty baller if it waz real gameplay.

It was real gameplay,i don't care what anyone says. For those of you that say it isn't gameplay, remember that the pics we had before the trailer are from different angles, and that when magazine companies went over they watched a demo of the game ( not a trailer ),and not once did they dis-believe what they saw. The point of a trailer is to make it look interesting and action packed etc.
The point is,the trailer was that good people just don't want to believe it. Yet the magazines, that saw their demo did not dismiss anything.
They said many things about their demo playthrough, that was true in the trailer. They also ( the mag companies ) saw alot more that what we were shown in the trailer, but weren't allowed to talk about it. Why would bethesda show things in gameplay, animations etc, that aren't there?...they wouldn't.
I think some people need to re-read all the info we have been given thus far.

Yeah I guess I worded that poorly, I knew it was real gameplay, it was just that the one part seamed a bit too cinematic. Even so I'm now really jealous of the magazine people who played the demos.

When the "skeleton" got hit in the neck, it's neck snapped. Also in the Trailer, all of the hacks with axes and swords sound more brutal and I can't wait to try that out. :celebration:

If you watch the trailer in slow motion, the skeleton actually bends its head back even before getting hit. It looks really weird.
