But What happens when you die in ESO. Is it dead is dead. Or you black out or do you restore from a save point? And are there penalties for dying?
You can either respawn on the nearest shrine or use a soul gem to revive right on the spot. The penalty is that you damage your equipment when you die.
Pretty sure you didn't.
And the only thing that hasn't been mentioned is that any player can resurrect another dead player by using a soul gem from their inventory.
If one dies to a player there is absolutely no penalty, except for the long walk, but thats quite enjoyable in Cyrodiil.
Well you do lose A LOT of gold by dying, in the form of repairs that is, even if you don't die, repairs, at least pre level 20, are very punishing, die once or twice and you will feel it burn into your gold reserves.
You don't lose gold, but repairs were frickin expensive.
After one dungeon run with a group that struggled i was out 750ish gold in repairs and 3k was all i had.
Nice to see a game that punishes you when you die for once but jesus...
At that point, unless your gear is blue, you're better off crafting another set tbh, much cheaper.
It revives fully, but the type of gem needed changes as you level. So, for example, a petty soul gem will revive a character up to level... 10(?). And then you would need a lesser soul gem, and so on.
From what I saw, it won't work at all. You have to have the right gem type to start reviving.
1-9 Petty
10-19 Minor
20-29 Normal
30-39 Greater
40-50 Grand
and your armor does get damage (and stats go down to zero if it is not repair) More times one dies and not repairing it, more it will cost to repair it.
Sorry, but it is written in stone that your equipment doesn't get damaged when another player kills you. (It is actually written in the ingame help.)
If expansions bring higher level caps, as is the MMO norm, will 70-90 require a super-special-grand-plus gem? Although I hope this game manages to avoid going with the MMO norm in all things.
ah, I know that it is damage when a monster kills you. Thanks
That sounds like a lot for one dungeon. Are you sure you're not looking at your total inventory and the "repair all" selection?
Yes and it get worse at higher levels, even worse with very good gear, in short system work just as in WOW. Yes they did a lot of stuff right.
Some other notes on Soul Gems. There are 2 ways I know of to get them:
1) As a drop
2) Buy from a vendor
The ones that drop are already full from what I have seen, though maybe mobs will drop empty ones too. The vendor sells both full and empty ones, with the full ones being a lot more expensive. The empty ones you can fill via Soul Trap. Soul Trap is part of the World skill line. You will already have the skill line when you start the game, but you'll need to invest a skill point into Soul Trap to use it.
Soul Gems are also used to re-charge enchantments, so you'll want to keep a stock on hand.
Maybe this is why I was confused about how to fill soul gems. Did the filled ones simply say "soul gem" while the empty ones said, "soul gem (empty)" ?
