What happens if you burn an Elder Scroll?

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 11:30 am

Just what it says on the tin. What would happen if you tried to burn an Elder Scroll? Would it be nothing special? Would the universe end? Is that how baby M'aiq is formed?

Do the words "The thread of prophecy has been severed" appear before your eyes?

I'm curious.

Considering the whacky nature of the scrolls, its hard to say what would happen, or if its even possible to destroy a scroll in that nature. Perhaps its similar nature to the dragons, where its never really gone.

I think destroying an elder scroll would result in all loss knowledge of the prophecy within that scroll. I dont think that if you burn it that the prophecies listed won't be erased from the future but people would lose the ability to gain knowledge of that prophecy or manipulate it if you wanted too.

No one's ever tried, so we can't really say. They might not even be flammable.

Lepidopteran-borne dust will extinguish any flames set to an Elder Scroll.

I don't think you can simply burn one. And they have a very weird and special nature and are of infinite size, so I dont really think anything would happen. I believe I have read somewhere that they sometimes dissappear and reapear from one time to another. And regardsless of what I said last is tre or not I think they will just reappear somewhere else. I don't think neither the mortals or the immortal (including the et'Ada) are capable of destroying the scribblings of the very Godhead itself.

Nothing happens, Dovahkiin and that thief from Imperial City thieves' guild has been burned by dragons, evil mages, fire traps or even the magma in Dagon's Oblivion plane and that scroll remain unscathed. Really, artifacts with huge power have a tendency to erase their 'current existence' and appear in other places in other time. You might be able to alter the nature of those artifacts which has lesser power but I can't see the ES to get destroyed. That thing's so powerful it's ridiculous, it can multiply, disappear, send other things through time, it even allows you to see time which is so messed up in nirn.

Don't try it. It's not worth the risk.

If I had to guess, I'd say the prophecy contained within that particular scroll would never happen.

With disastrous results.

Creatia-as-smoke is released, where it floats towards the limits of Mundus. When it nears the mundus-void border, the void-princes fight and take position to gather as much creatia as they can.

Free-sithical creatia is released in a brilliant display of unsustainable prolixity. Born is a mutant lattice of all worlds of teetering possibility, threatening collapse under it own tumorous weight ; a carpet-bombing of explosive, cervical theogeneses screaming across the membrane of the aether like mythic kudzu; A new, heavenly kingdom so queer, so grand, the net mass of a question of whence it came should spell utter cataclysm.

Just imagine having lain a thick piece of Styrofoam over a roaring fire. The effect is much the same.

Burn an Elder Scroll.

Find the secrets of the universe.

Then you zero-sum.

Everything foretold in that Elder Scroll proceeds as usual.

To the OP: What if the prophecy on the burning scroll foretells its own burning?

So what if the scroll that foretells its burning isn't burned?

What if there was a scroll foretelling a scroll would be burned while another said one wouldn't be burned?

I think it would just reappear somewhere else as if nothing happened, because nothing happened, because it's not in time.

"рукописи не горят" !!!!! *

* - manuscripts don't burn! - from "master and margarita", when satan presented to him his masterpiece, which he has burned years ago

-----------------

Seriously though, it'll just pop somewhere else... However, something will happen, you just won't know what. Like that last sentence in 2920:

In the smoky catacombs beneath the city where Sotha Sil forged the future with his arcane clockwork apparatus, something unforeseen happened. An oily bubble seeped from a long trusted gear and popped. Immediately, the wizard's attention was drawn to it and to the chain that tiny action triggered. A pipe shifted half an inch to the left. A tread skipped. A coil rewound itself and began spinning in a counter direction. A piston that had been thrusting left-right, left-right, for millennia suddenly began shifting right-left. Nothing broke, but everything changed.
“It cannot be fixed now,” said the sorcerer quietly.

I just had a breakthrough regarding this discussion:

Were there Elder Scroll on Yokuda? They would have been incinerated in the blast.
