What has crytek done

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 12:01 am

On my PC, the Middle Mouse button would open the on screen Suit selection to choose a feature.
This has been replaced with a cruely thought out, and console oriented system.
Gone are the Strength and Super run features.
The Strength option of the suit had such a impact on the game as did the speed.
A user would run up to the enemy, grab, Switch to Strength and say good bye.
The speed or rather lack of speed in Crysis 2 is also unnerving. It isn't as encapturing as Crysis and Warhead
Its now either, walk or "Super" run which again causes me to lose my immersion while gaming.
The Armor has been replaced with another poorly thought out plan. How does a suit v2.0 have an armor that is worse than the first suit.
Merely putting on the armor starts to drain it, which doesn't bother me as much as the other issues, but really makes you think what was Crytek/EA thinking.

Another wonderful feature was a sandbox affect that Crysis and Warhead had(Granted not a true sandbox). The player was able to take multiple paths, not paths that the Dev had placed to make you believe it was a sandbox.
Buildings, trees, items would all be destroyed with a flick of a button, but now its impossible.

this + 1,000,000 what they have done is unforgiveable!!!

This game is fun, but not great. If you say otherwise, you're a console kid, or just a kid, and never played Crysis 1. This game is NOT Crysis 2. This is Crysis of Duty. And as such, fun. But not great.

i agree with op, where is the sandbox? Where are all our graphical settings? Why do I need to change the exe to bioshock to get it to run properly?

What exactly happened after crysis 1 ending? Where is Dx11? Why are hackers able to play multiplayer? IS there anti-cheat?

Questions.... questions that need to be answered.

What has Crytek done?

Well they just released the most kick ass game since Half Life 2...

Not much else really...

...not even close. Crysis 2 can't even hold a candle to HL2. HL2 was a PC game first THEN they ported if FROM PC to console.

Oh look, another self entitled ass.
Why? Because he expects what was promised and what he paid for? You may enjoy being a doormat for game developers that says "Produce mediocre game here and I produce money!" however most of us prefer to get quality for our money and get what was promised. Not pay $60 bucks for a beta.

Is it me or are some of you wearing rose tinted spectacles ? Crysis 2 having a few problems makes the first game even better now ? Way to go revisionists. Crysis' ai isn't exactly advanced either

according to something on crytech's site crysis 2 did originally have destructive environment and advanced AI and a sandbox environment, but these seem to have been cut from the release, for a linear map, stupid AI who willingly trot up to look at the corpse of a stealthed killed friend only to get the same treatment, and they all seem to have the same AI, cell, normal soldiers, squids, all act exactly the same. Anyone seen the flying rats in one of the harbour maps, where the rats are floating 2 ft above the ground. And the destructable environment is only destructable when its been scripted to break. there's also the dodgy controls, sneak up behind an AI use 'v' to do a stealth kill, doesn't work you power kick the AI a few feet cause the 'v' key hasn't been held down long enough. Stealth kill's are only available on some maps.

This kind of crap just shows how hard it's getting for the nut-hugging fanboys to defend this game. they've lost the rational debate, and are reduced to babbling lunacy.

AI? i really think the AI in Crysis 2 is better than Crysis. Sure, they get stuck on objects occasionally, but the AI in Crysis 1 and Warhead were horrendous.

In Crysis 1, if you were to snipe at someone with a silenced rifle from pretty far away, they would *turn around and look in the opposite direction.* Often times, they would bump into each other and fall (pretty hilarious actually), but that even happens when they're simply walking slowly, looking for you. That even sometimes results in them *DYING,* if they stay on the ground for too long.

They would swim out to water to get you, but they'd just end up drowning instead. How they drown is unknown, because their heads are above water right up until they die. And they keep on coming towards you in the water.

If you shoot a red barrel so that it catches fire, what do they do? They walk right up to the barrel and stare at it UNTIL IT EXPLODES. I mean, honestly.

The enemy AI in Crysis 2 is at the very least mostly competent... we just better remember the times when they're too busy walking into a wall or each other. They're certainly better than the nonexistent AI of Call of Duty (all of them. I've played CoD 1 through Black Ops and I swear to god nothing has changed in those 7 years), Medal of Honor (2010), Bad Company 2 and Homefront.

You're just remembering the game through rose-tinted glasses. Be careful when you do that.

I said the same a page back and before C2 came out I revisited Crysis and saw all these things as well as NVA flying into the air for no reason.
The point is I'd exprienced it before but with time I'd forgotten which is where the rose tinted anology comes from

Great post OP

Read reviews from real players, not "Professional" reviews.

QFT, I started doing this about a couple of years ago for games and movies. I don't trust official sites anymore, and don't get me started on PC Gamer. I search to see what the actual person like you and I have to stay about a game or a movie.

Wait, someone actually believes Crysis 2 is the greatest game since Half Life 2?

Is this real, is this the matrix?

Crytek have streamlined many functions and made the gameplay more fun. Personally C2>C1/Warhead. The only thing missing are solid characters like Nomad, Psycho and Prophet (who dies!! Now that pissed me off).

I know right? It needed a story like MW2, or Black Ops, then it would have been more popular.

They released this beastly game and managed to achieve beastliness across every platform called Crysis 2.

Did that answer your question?

a good word is worth 10 thousand bad words, remember that.

You can tell the people who haven't actually played Crysis 1 and its expansion Warhead. They're the people who think this game is amazing and dont see the harm and how much of a downgrade it is.

Less impressive graphics, cheap "Press W to crawl" "Press F to kick" crap throughout the entire game. You can't even kick a fence down in your billion dollar suit. The AI is dumb founded and just retarded at times. Marines can't even hit a 8 foot alien 20 meters infront of them. It's just plain dumb. Where as Crysis 1 Marines could hit the flying aliens, 150 meters away? See the difference?

Crysis 1 had its flaws but it had its own unique feeling. It left you finishing it going "that was... epic!". It was long, it was large, it was fun and unique. Crysis 2 is... Well... CoD on steroids with a Nanosuit.

Crytek sold out to consoles. Plain and simple. They can't really cry how butthurt they are about it now. They made the choice. There's no law stating that PC exclusive games sell bad. Good quality PC exclusives can and DO sell incredibly well. More then enough for a profit. Crytek got greedy.

Enjoy your new X-box fanclub Crytek, you just lost 70% your PC supporters. 5 years down the line Crytek will probably be putting out yearly generic multiplatforms. Anyone else have that feeling?

I can certainly tell who doesn't have the ability to see how some people could possibly enjoy 2 different types of game design.

How many times does a developer need to say action bubbles or cheoreographed sandbox until people realise that games do change between sequels.

I bet you think that it was terrible of Bioshock 2 to have the plasmids combine and change abilities rather than just a higher damage number where upgrades 1 and 2 were worthless and you might as well wait until level 3 became available.

Crysis 2 is almost a perfect blend of Crysis and Call of duty 4, if that hybrid design does not appeal, and sure it is a risk to go jack of all trades as a design philosophy, but that doesn't make games bad, it just means that certain people won't find it appealing.

I don't care about racing simulators, that doesn't make every racing game in the genre a bad game.

If all people want is another crysis 1 repeat just play the damn original
