What I Hate About Oblivion That I Hope They Fixed In Skyrim

Post » Mon Sep 26, 2011 9:57 am

This is my pet peeve with Oblivion. I am playing a female wood elf and the voice when she takes damage is done by a guy. It's obvious and ridiculous. This could have been done so much better and really breaks the immersion especially if you're playing female characters. I sure hope they fixed this in Skyrim. Women should sound like women not men. I really like the game but that stops me from loving it.

Honestly, the only thing I disliked about Oblivion was leveled creatures and loot. Everything else was great, especially in a game in 2006 btw. Apparently Skyrim has fixed this so :celebration:

Pretty much. The only thing I despise about Oblivion is having to belong to the Thieves' guild if you want to sell stolen stuff. If no one sees me take it, I should be able to sell it to anyone. They should have no idea that it's stolen.

if that is the only thing that bothered you in Oblivion then you are easy to please lol. No but seriously I am sure the voices are better.. they have a lot more actors now and they said they feel "more comfortable" doing it.

Considering I'm still playing Oblivion, and enjoying every second of it, I'm not worried one bit about Skyrim. Actually, thats wrong, I'm worried about my health and social life, because if its going to do what Oblivion did to me x2.... well, my room will serve as my grave haha.

Just like the psychic guards who can sense a disturbance in the force when I steal a fork and get chased to the ends of the earth for it.

LOL! This reminds me of when you speak to, say, a beggar (normally the females) and they talk to you in one voice, but if you give them a coin they reply in a completely different voice "Thank you kind sir!". Never annoyed me, just made me chuckle. For such a technically brilliant game, I'll allow them the odd thing to slip.

Spoiler
Try the Inn of Ill Omen. You need to invest in the shop to make it worth your time though.

On topic: I disliked how common the best gear decame on higher lvl in OB, but I don't expect that to happen again.

Just like the psychic guards who can sense a disturbance in the force when I steal a fork and get chased to the ends of the earth for it.

as the hero grabed the fork, three miles away in a secluded guard garissen, every guard awoke with a shock "something is wrong" shouted one "the fork...it has been stolen!!" yelled another as they rushed to to comfront the criminal scum.

and that is the story of every crime not committed by me (really, i never had this problem, maybe im just the best thief ever :teehee: ) in oblivion

the most annoying thing in oblivion to me was when i was decorating my house, i put something down and everything exploded, or the item in question shot across the room like a rocket of death

well, morrowind did it pretty well, but not perfect. if you stole something from someone you couldn't sell it back to the same person. problem was, you couldn't sell the the same item TYPE back to the seller (i.e. if you steal a "golden saint" grand soul gem a vendor, you couldn't sell any grand soul gem you get in the future to her)

but i don't know, every iron sword/ leather helmet/ fork in every house in tamriel looks the same, i guess a vendor would have no way of knowing if that fork was his/hers...

Sorry OP, but you're wrong. The person who did the female grunts for Bosmers is the same woman who did the female Bosmer voice. Confirmed via Wikipedia.

The STUPID speech minigame -- Fixed

Overpowered Magical Exploits such as 100% chameleon, 100% reflect damage, 100% reflect spell -- I hope they're not removed in their entirety, just balanced as to not make magic more powerful than any other play type once again

Characters with actual depth

More varied voice dialogue -- Confirmed

Written dialogue that isn't terribly cheesy -- We'll see. The soliloquy I heard Von Sydow perform has inspired some amount of confidence in me.

Terrible Animation -- Sorry, still looks bad to me.

Low Res Graphics in the distance -- I've heard distant objects look bad, but maybe PC is better.

Well, if I leave out the page of stuff that was mod-correctable then only major concerns were:

Linear quest design - few quests allowed any kind of optional pathway for completion
Dialog choices - a number of conversations had just ONE dialog option to choose. Seriously why stop the conversation if we only have one choice of something to say to an npc?
City emptiness- sure there were mods that did add more npcs, but lets face it... that should really have been in the original game. The capital of all the empire felt like MAYBE 200 people lived there.

I think my only thing i really hated was the fact that guards can tell who a person was if he wearing different set of armour and is in a city on the other side of the world and the gurad would know you did you stole a spoon and got a 5 gold bounty and want to kill me for it. and they fixed part of that

Hey I didn't like alot of things in oblivion but that didn't make it a terrible game and mods customized the game to my tastes.

Oblivion - damage going through blocks.

I have no objection about eating that arrow I tried to parry with my sword, but honestly, nothing is more silly than to fall dead with a shield full of arrows and unscathed body

Or my character parrying that incoming attack, to only get a heart attack and roll over!

:<

Let me get my ass kicked because I svck! Not because the enemy has divine powers!

I agree, i sure hope so that we wont take dmg from an arrow while holding a shield as blocker, i guess i am ok to take a little dmg if someone is bashing me with a big 2 handed axe while i try to take cover with my shield, but if i take dmg from arrows i will be disappointed.
