What if an Independent Skyrim becomes canon?

Post » Mon May 06, 2013 9:05 am

With all these discussions on the CW, I was wondering how people would react if in the next TES game, Skyrim becoming an independent country winds up becoming canon and the Thalmor wind up being defeated in some way by an Independent Skyrim.

Now, this isn't a debate on how an Independent Skyrim can beat the Thalmor or how it happened, only what if Skyrim becoming independent becomes canon. It can work on the Stormcloak side since that is the point of the questline and it can work on the Imperial side by having another rebellion take place that winds up winning Skyrim's independence as various people say they are willing to take up arms when another rebellion starts and Tullius himself states he fears Ulfric could become a martyr.

Civil War argument is inevitable.

It would conflict against my choice of choosing the Empire which I would actually find annoying and unfair. Nor do I like the idea of Skyrim being the only ones to defeat the Dominion.

It would be poor writing if it were an independent Skyrim was canon along with said independent Skyrim defeating the Thalmor. So yes, I would be annoyed at such a notion.

Season Unending and the Dark Brotherhood questlines exist for a reason.

I wouldn't want the Thalmor beat off-screen period. I want to see this resolved before my own eyes in next the TES.

As far as the first question, neutral. My characters tend to avoid both sides as they usually don't relate to them. (Not my fault they don't like my Draugr and Daedric minions. Fools...) I usually end up killing them whenever I encounter them indiscriminately.(Warzones mod)

I really don't give a Vehk which side is canon if it were indeed going to happen for whatever reason.

god no...

The Civil War is only going on because Ulfric was upset about the banning of Talos Worship, so he went to the palace of his long time friend, and killed him with The Voice simply because he was upset the high king went along with this...

The Civil War was not started because of the search for indenpendence, it was started because Ulfric disagreed with his superiors take on the matter and wanted to have no superior so he could do everything his way.

only reason he says "Lets kick out the empire who has protected us in years, and be our own nation with me at the helm", is because it gets more recruits then "hey, I disagree with the politicians, so i will rule Skyrim so no one can go over my head on a matter!"

Not really sure about the first question. While I'd rather see the Empire win the war, I wouldn't be "annoyed" if Skyrim wins independence. Que sera, sera.

I would however, be annoyed if they defeat the Dominion. That, in my mind, just wouldn't make sense. Plus, like Hev said, I don't want it to happen off screen. I want to put an end to them.

It wont, so im not worried. the civil war doesn't have to mentioned in details anyways. VI will likely take place like 200 years after Skyrim. in a completely different province with a completely new storyline and setting. no one will give a rat's ass about the civil war then.

And how do you know? An Independent Skyrim being canon is just as likely as an Imperial victory being canon or Skyrim's fate not being mentioned at all. Bethesda will decide what will happen, so until then this thread is meant to see how people would react if an Independent Skyrim was indeed canon.

why does everyone seem to think Elder Scrolls VI will take place hundreds of years in the future?

I mean, oblivion only took place a couple dozen years after Morrowind if I recall

More than likely the next TES will either favor both of them or neither of them. Or the events of Skyrim would be long pass that this whole thing would become irrelevant (what I would like). If Bethesda made it so that one side was successful in the Civil War it would make it feel as if the other was the wrong decision, when this entire Civil War questline is all based on personal preference, not the generic 'good guys and bad guys'. Favoring one side is a good way to anger the other and make it feel like the player's choice in the game did not matter. Bad idea. Better to please both sides, or better yet, forget about such a minor event.

Because it's pretty obvious from the way Bethesda have gone about writing this whole shenanigan that neither side is going to be the canon victor. Season Unending exists for a reason.

Because i know that Bethesda will come up with a better writing. and like i said why bother to go through all this and piss off the fans who chose the Empires side when they can choose to make it vague as possible and make both parts happy? the civil war is a small thing and at the end its only really related to Skyrim. mentioning or not wont effect the next game.

An independant Skyrim is possible, unlikely but possible. If this becomes the case i can accept it but wont like it. As for Skyrim defeating the Dominion, not possible outside of Skyrim. Their forces are too few and too under trained and it would be flat out annoying if Bethesda wrote it out that way because it would not make any sense. The only advantage the rebels have is the homefeild advantage so it simply would not make sense for these guys to defeat the Dominion when the Dominion have more compident soldiers and are on their turf. The Empire is an equal force to the Dominion and have better overal training than the rebels so it makes alot more sense.

I would actually be annoyed if Skyrim somehow managed to beat the Aldmeri Dominion by itself.

Even though I support the Empire, I can see an independent Skyrim.

I wouldn't mind Independent Skyrim, but they'd have to do a very good job of explaining how it happened. Skyrim vs Thalmor? No.

By the way, just because the latest game was set in Skyrim, doesn't mean it has to have a happy ending.
I'm sure you guys know that.
Vvanderfell blew up shortly after the Nerevarine saved it, for example.

I'm pretty convinced Skyrim will be taken by the Dominion now that the CW has weakened her. It was the whole point of the Civil War from the Dominion's perspective.

(Morrowind started 3E427. and the Oblivion Crisis started 3E433
