What interests you the most about Brink?

Post » Sat Jan 09, 2010 11:46 am

Out of all the features Brink brings to the table, which of them holds most of your interests?

I'm actually going to rank them:

  • For me it's foremost the SMART system. I practice Parkour myself in real life as one of my many hobbies (anybody else?), so whenever it gets blended into one of my other hobbies, gaming, it strikes a chord with me.
  • After that I'd say the customization. Visually first, I know alot of people may say "Why do they go so far into customization if it's a first person game and you won't even see yourself?" Well, in real life why do we care at all what we look like? How you look often reflects who you are and your personality and, though we often say we don't care what others think about us, we all do to some degree. And then weapons and perks to focus in on my favorite style of play.
  • The art style is really neat. Yeah yeah people will say the visuals don't matter as long as it's fun, but photo-realistic games are boring to look at in my opinion (that's what we look at all day when we're not gaming). Having a cartoony and vibrant art style is much much more exciting too look at.
  • 8 player co-op. Am I reading that right?!?! That's freaking awesome!
  • I'd have to say what interests me the least is the concept of blurring singleplayer and multiplayer and having your custom characters be the main characters and appear in cutscenes and such. It sounds great in concept, but it doesn't always work. Last game I played that tried this, Lost Planet 2, was alot of fun but it made the story very "blah." Here's to hoping Splash Damage can retain a good story in the midst of this all!

Loadout and character customization without the stupidly fast COD kill times.

Objective gameplay with no leaderboards/stats to whoring, ie less camping.

Smart seems interesting, although I could honestly care less about it with the above already being included.

I want SMART the most. That's why I followed Brink in the first place. Customisation was extra bait on the hook. I don't really care about the online+singleplayer feature, but I think it's still going to be awesome. Unless it means you always need to be connected to the internet to play. I hate Steam for doing that to me.

I think the Damage/Health-Ratio in CoD is just fine. In BFBC2 it's ridiculous, how many bullets people take before going down.

Alot of people like it better when it takes more bullets to kill someone because then it's not whoever pulls the trigger first wins, the person getting shot at still has a chance to save himself and possibly reverse kill his attacker. Videogames don't need to be realistic in that sense to be fun.

It's definately not as fast as in MW2 when using unbuffed weapons against medium avatars.

It will sertainly not be that ridiculous as BC2 and MW2 togheter :D
I never got this :swear: while playing any game, but in BC2 it's more like: :swear: :swear: :swear: :D
Brink is going to easy my mind a little bit, because frustration is what i get these days more then I want :(

I think the nice unique graphics and customization drew me into this game but after watching reviews and hearing everything else about it I think I just like everything about it :)

I love everything about it. As for the story bits I don't think the story centers around the players. The players are just in the background watching the main characters move the story along

I would say the objective based game play and teamwork combined with the SMART system would be the most interesting feature to me. Although the customization is great and I know there was a lot of work put into it, in the end it does not make the game what it is but it is certainly very in depth and a great feature.

^That is exactly what is happening to my beloved Killzone right now with the third installment. Not only did they completely remove recoil when you aim down sights, but they've added a heaping helping of aim assist when ADS as well..... that combined with ridiculously low health/high bullet damage has effectively turned a skill/objective based realistic shooter into a noob friendly AA campfest that resembles COD more than Killzone. And don't even get me started on the killstreaks and pop up points! It is an outrage and a tragedy that this is happening to my favorite franchise. KZ2 had just the right balance that resulted in more drawn out and heated gunfights that boiled down to skill.... now it comes down to who see's who first like 7x7 said.

Well at least I still have Brink to look forward to!!!

Its a real shame that most FPS games are going down that route, there's room for innovation in the genre but as the industry is so massively risk adverse it only happens rarely. I like the fact that SD are taking a risk with Brink and Bethesda by publishing it, hopefully Brink shifts a few million copies and we get more innovation. Fingers crossed guys.
