What a JOKE ! the trees are not even interactive at all !

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 8:17 am

I remember in crysis one , when you shoot through a tree , the tree leaves tend to swing and sway and you can shoot down a tree easily and realisticaly ! in crysis 2 the environment seems like so rigid ! what a big joke ... i was planning to buy this game but not anymore ... Goodbye Crysis Seris.

If you set the physics to max, you can shoot trees down.....but that's it already. (Aside from kicking cars and this things...)

Crysis 1:
-Shoot down trees
-Pick up/throw objects/enemies
-Blow up barrels
-Knock down shacks
-Levitate frogs

Crysis 2:
-Shoot down trees
-Pick up/throw objects/enemies
-Blow up barrels
-Chip concrete
-Kick cars and other heavy objects
-No shacks exist, you can smash newspaper stands and such but everything tends to be concrete instead of wood. So no wonder.

I was just thinking.. In the map where there is office furniture, wouldnt it be nice to be able to blow the furniture up? or even move the furniture around? like in F.E.A.R 2 where u can move things and use as cover?

I mean, I can rip off a HMG, but I can't move furniture.. what gives?

just to mention when u set crysis 2 to extreme and shoot the tree leaves they interact... so as when u shoot up a tree in crysis 2... it works when u set it to extreme but not on high and very high :)

Well Crysis 1 "was build" from water, sand, trees and few "buildings". So basically there wasn't to much things which can be destroyed, you can't do anything to water, sand, nor walls of buildings which are build out of concrete, ONLY things which can be destroyed are trees, vehicles, barrels and some buildings.
In the end of the day Crysis 1 was about shooting trees, cars and barrels, which you can do in Crysis 2 as well and many other things. Actually environment in C2 is so complex comparing to C1 that there is way more things to mess around.

I am finding pushing car from building on soldiers chatting down on the street, or bashing them with car doors more entertaining than shooting a tree (which you can do in C2 anyway) ;)

Yeah, the way the lamp posts are able to stop a tank in it's tracks and the non-existant physics are way cool too.
So many things i like about this piece of chit.

Yeah and in Crysis 1 soldier which can be killed by a fist punch in leg(!!!) SURVIVE NUCLEAR EXPLOSIONS few fit away from him... so screw your tank and lamp posts LOL.

Well taking about tree interactivity you made me remember something about C1.

I was showing Crysis 1 to a friend of mine for the first time,
and i didnt show him nothing from shooting-killing-suit powers etc.
Nothing of that... Instead i was in the middle of the jungle on a hill, and what i showed him was:
I spray-shoot a Palm tree and it was cut in half and fallen to the ground. Then i spray-shoot again its top off..
...and then the log just rolled downhill by gravity... |0.o|

That was mindblowing for my friend, and me as well the first time i saw it.

Crysis 1 just felt better since more of the environment was destroyable....cuz it was mostly trees and shacks.
Crysis 2 is in NY city.
So far, the only game I know where a whole building crumbles in real time is the upcoming battlefield 3...and its not confirmed if theyll use that in general or just for the scripted sequences.

The real problem seems like the few odd objects that seem indestructible, like the antitank lampposts, and a few of the wooden planks that remain standing while the neighboring planks get blown to bits (could be a bug).
Otherwise, Crysis 2's concrete chipping away until u need a new cover is much more impressive and useful than felling trees.

Basing your opinion of an entire video game, and series, based on tree interactivity. I really don't know how to think about that...

I was never "blown away" by Crysis nearly as much as many others were when it came to it's graphics. Yes, they were great, but I also fully understood the reason they were great was the way the engine worked. From a texture and interactivity standpoint, it was not and is not nearly as unique as it gets credit for.

I personally think Crysis got put on a pedestal by players that was far to high for it's own good.

Anyway, I think Crysis 2 was still a fun game, after all, that's what a video game is all about. Too many players these days seem to forget that. Where as many of us "older" gamers who have been around since the Atari days are not nearly as judgmental. Yes, it's very cool to see the power of some modern graphic engines at work, the first time I seen Bad Company 2 in DX11, it was amazing. However I do not in any way base my like of the game on that alone. It's just a fun game to play, period. The same goes for Crysis 2, and any other game I play.

gotta love the downgrade from cry1 to cry2.

What actually was downgraded in C2? Textures, some particles (when water splashes/explosions) and destruction at some point, thats all.
In matter of destruction it is hard even on PC to make fully destructible environment, since city environment is xx times more rich in objects/surfaces which can be damaged. Even if C2 would be made only PCs we won't get so much destruction as people want, and even with all these "uber" destruction there will be almost no people who will be able to play game on full settings. Basically even if they use full PC/Engine potential, most of PC won't be even able to make use out of that engine potential.

NOTHING in cry1 should be better than cry2. Fact.

Not actual fact, everything depends on what path developers choose in matter of developing game engine/gameplay.
