What keeps you playing?

Post » Sat May 10, 2014 8:15 am

So I used to play Skyrim a ton.

Then after like 7 different playthroughs I switched to another game.

I'm trying to get back into the game again but it is extremely hard. I know what happens in literally every quest. I tried to play again yesterday but it just seemed to be repetitive.

So I ask you this. What keeps you playing? I need some advice to get me into skyrim again

Several people might suggest roleplaying, but honestly I'd say to just forget about the game for a while.

It's been a little over a month for me and the only thing that's drawing me back is the chance to play with mods (I had the 360 version and recently got a decent gaming PC).

Dont do quests. Just play with the game. See everything the game has to offer from many different points

I can't play any video game for more than a few months at a time. I cycle between Skyrim, Oblivion (the game I'm playing now), Morrowind, Fallout 3. Then it will be back to Skyrim again...

I usually take a good break from it for a couple of months and then it feels kind of fresh again. During breaks I usually complete a different game or two just to kill some spare time.

my disc got jacked and I, thankfully, have a full legendary on its way. and, I haven't played skyrim in over a year.

I almost feel like an elder scrolls noob.

i'm going to delay reality by playing DiD only games with lotza great personal rulez.

I've been asked multiple times by my wife: what the hell do you get out of blahblahblah?

and, I always tell her: it's the most relaxing thing i can do. it's almost "drug"like, in that, when i play, the world flakes away. she does not get it.

i am an avid weightlifter and love to dissect different supplements, but, nothing does what, say, oblivion does, in about a few seconds, literally. (except, caffeine anhydrous powder, for those who need info, lol.)

morrowind is not halo multiplayer.

Same here OP. Before I sold Skyrim, I had tried to get back into it, but I've done so much of it so many times, that it grew repetitive. Just going into Helen Keep made me sigh all the time. So I sold it and have not looked back. Might try Oblivion though.

oblivion will give you less, much less, unless, the great shivering isles is standard.

Is there a specific reason you seem to want to force yourself to play a game you're not enjoying?

Take a break from it. If you're suffering from "Skyrim Itch"™, just play an hour and then turn it off.

Memory pattern recognition makes it difficult to play a game because you know where the good stuff is and you're more likely to try and get it rather than immersing yourself into the game for what it is.

Roleplaying is okay, but again, without any true goals, you're just wandering about, and this brings on boredom.

Try setting up some very ridiculous goals for yourself, like playing a character using only an iron dagger wearing fur armor or playing the game but not allowed to enter any major city.

Plenty of ideas, but if none of these appeal to you, I think taking a long break is the best solution to your problem.

As mentioned above, Roleplaying is the go, however everyone's idea of "Roleplaying" can vary. I'm experimenting with this now beyond level 50.

Also, I good dose of lateral thinking comes in handy, in other words - think outside the box in how your character approaches the game. Consoles will limit you of course to vanilla, if your on PC, explore the world of mods.

People will suggest roleplaying.. I take a break until I forget some/most of the dialogue/quests.. 2nd playthrough... I also try different classes... My warrior is one. My archer is almost done.. I still need to do Mage. and a playtrhough on the hardest difficulty.. and then Maybe something else.. But Ill mostly be done after that.

I've had this game since 11/11/11 and what keeps me coming back is the freedom. I've always enjoyed Bioware and Black Isles rpg's, but there's something about the Elder Scrolls that keeps me coming back. I love just wandering and gazing at Skyrim's beauty. I am so glad Bethesda did not make Skyrim a frozen wasteland as hinted by the Nords in Solstheim during the 'Bloodmoon' expansion for Morrowind. Skyrim looks like a place I can live in. Skyrim is my second favorite TES game, the first being Morrowind. In my current playthrough I'm going to explore Skyrim at night as a vampire, I've always explored it during the day.

Plus

Spoiler
I want to encounter Babette feeding during the night.

The fact that very few games released since Skyrim was released can live up to it. It's one of the best games available to play right now, IMO. Coming second is the Souls Series.

simple th" game is just that good and immersive

add to this the open ended playstyles and you got a absolute winner

the sale figures speaksfor it self

and as a bonus , with the creation kit the modding community made this game not only better but made the replay value so immense that people stay playing this game till the next TES comes out andf even beyond

Well I took a few suggestions and decided to roleplay a little,

Right now I'm roleplaying as a magicka researchers, it's fun because I've never done any magic playthroughs so it is interesting

Yeppers. Most of the quests are boring and linear anyway, so just explore the land and roleplay.

Trying a new character type is always a great option. You can even specialize further within each class for an even greater experience.

Roleplaying, playinh new builds and races that I never play keep me going. By the time I get through all these I can start back over to what Im used to playing as. Then the cycle continues.

Definitely a different kind of character, my natural build is a "battlemage" so it takes a different way of thinking to make me play in other ways. Right now I am sticking to the wilderness, my character has been hunting and fishing in these parts for years. I've found quite a few places I'd never visit if doing the same old quests over and over.

It's an edge Skyrim has over the Fallouts, even if they make it easier to play "characters", that the stock game has more unknown places.

This is kind of where I'm at. With 1500+ hours in the game I got my monies worth, but I'm currently 'between games' and wanted to play some more Skyrim, but it just isn't happening. I added the 'Interesting NPC's' mod just to something different in the game. It's nice, but not enough to get me caught back up in it.

The problem is I can't just play, I need to role-play, and I think I've played out just about every RP I can think of. Add to that the fact that Skyrim doesn't recognize anything about your character or what they've done, and it makes all PC's feel exactly the same no matter what they've done.

I did have a RP of a Khajiit that refused to enter walled cities. It cut out a lot of content (and the MQ) but was still a lot of fun as it force me to use different NCP's for services and such. I may just try that one again and play for fun.
