example, you say TES game you like most, then say what keeps you playing it.

Morrowind, because its atmosphere, unique gameplay, an its music, by noneother than jeremy soule, just makes me want to live in it for real. if only it were reality.

Morrowind. Better atmosphere, story, and setting. I tried Daggerfall, but I couldn't tell the difference between the roads and the rivers.

Your mom, and...oh yeah - your mom.
Oh, what a self slayer.
Don't sue me, man. I joke.

Morrowind - because it's the best ever. It should have SET standards, but in fact all aspects of its success will continue to go ignored forever. Depressing. How about that.

Morrowind is the game I play the most. I'm eternally biased towards it, as it is the first Elder Scrolls game I played, there's just so much content! I've been playing for over 4 years now and I still haven't done everything in the game, nor been everywhere in the game.

What keeps me playing the Elder Scrolls? The fact that this series offers so many perplexing concepts, and that I still have yet to understand a great many of them. Just the information found in books is enough to keep one entertained for years. The identity of the Underking. Tiber Septim. What happened at Red Mountain. The Dragon Break. I'm still trying to wrap my head around all these fantastic concepts contained in the Elder Scrolls' lore.

In a nutshell, what keeps me playing and learning about the Elder Scrolls are the mysteries of its lore.

Oblivion (dont kill me yet! hear me out!) the only reason being the variety of mods that are there. I just enjoy the mods more, vanilla morrowind beats vanilla oblivion any day :)

I like novelty and I did pretty much all there was to do in the games I finished. I tried to return to Morrowind a few times, but that story is too much for me to take on twice:shocking: As for Oblivion I didn't even get DLC, not to mention the expansions, I was too let down by the game... :sadvaultboy:

Two main factors for me:

1 - The Lore/Universe. Very interesting and in depth mythos, political climate, etc. Keeps me engaged and interested in what's happening on the screen.

2 - The Sandbox structure of the Elder Scrolls games - "live another life in another world." I can choose the skills I want, ignore quests or do whatever quests I want in this game - freeform and don't do any quests at all, steal what I want, kill who I want if I get away with it. It's that freedom that's rare in all games, even RPG's. This is the closest to a pen and paper RPG that exists in the video game world.

Well I just like games were you can choose your own path in peace. There's no hurry somewhere and nobody is really pushing you forward. Morrowind is the way to go!

Right now, playing Morrowind, because it's new to me (oddly enough, Daggerfall I'd played previosuly).

I don't really favor any specific games, but I do appreciate the amount of work I don't need to do in Oblivion to do little tasks. Stuff like alchemy? Never figured that one out in Daggerfall, takes too long in Morrowind, and is "still a pain" in Oblivion, but vastly improved (by culling the non-pairing ingredients, no need to drag items, etc)

But for me, it's the ability to, if I want, run off and see what's shiny over that hill for no other reason than "I want to be on the otherside of that hill". As long as the devs aren't constantly telling me I can't be a mage becuase I made a swordsman build, or making locations "fixed-level" content (where if you are 5 levels lower than x, it's impossible, and if you're 5 over, it's a cakewalk), I'm fine with it.

If you want a rat cave for beginners, at least give me "plague rats" that carry extra-nasty diseases and are level 5 or 7 or 10 when I'm at level 40. It doesn't need to be deadly Daedrats, after all. Just... not the same level 1 rat that's everywhere. Likewise, if you want a dungeon to be certain death below a range, that's OK, as long as I have a reasonable chance to run away. That's all I ask: keep the lightning-fast enemies for deep inside, or give me slightly nerfed versions that I can outrun at low levels. Let me be the top magic user AND the top thief, AND an Assassin... if I want to be. I don't care about the Fighter's Guild. Not in ANY incarnation of TES. Never did figure out why they ALWAYS svck...

But... yeah: I play because I'm not required to follow a path, or be what I start as. I play for moments when I go "did I really just do that?", like The Ultimate Heist. I play for characters I get to like (not many of these, though. Sheogorath and Haskill, mainly. And at times, Martin. No one in Morrowind likes me, so...) I do not play to be in Medieval Life Simulator 5. I do not play because I feel the need to shoot things in the head (I have Fallout 3 for that). Nor do I play for nudies.

TES2: most replay value thanks to random content and huge scale. Best character creation. TES series in general I play because they're real sandboxes. When I want sandbox with real combat, I do Mount&Blade. When I want a really good story driven RPGs with nice character interaction, Dragon Age, Witcher and Mass Effect. None of those have the replay value of TES games though.. I really wish Bioware would do a sandbox game... Or to see them ally with Bethesda to make TES5.

This.

Daggerfall is my favourite (and was my first TES game). You never run out of quests as they will always be generated. Although granted, once you know their templates, they will be pretty much the same experience, i.e. for the Thieves Guild

"Awright, (player's first name), this is a simple sort of assignment. One you should have no trouble with. All you gotta do is bring this (weapon) over to our agent in (town), get (his) payment for it, and bring it back. Think you can handle that, (player's first name)?"

But the fact is, you can just keep playing with one character for years if you want to, and I have had characters that have lasted a long while.

Morrowind is my second favourite. I just love the deep lore, atmosphere, landscapes, architecture and political factions you get. Most of the scenery and buildings are not a generic medieval fantasy (which has been done to death), but it has a unique alien setting, most of the monsters are unique, i.e the cute Guars. In Morrowind, I feel like I'm in a second home.

I'm still playing Morrowind, because it's a "unique" experience, and it can be whatever you WANT it to be. There are levelled and unlevelled opponents, but they're (mostly) "intelligently placed", so if you "play it safe" you don't need to worry about running into a Dremora or Daedroth in your front yard, yet there are a few places where you really DON'T want to go until you're ready to handle it. That allows one to RP a warrior who charges into the thick of things, or a merchant who only fights because he's got no other choice, with equal viability, just by taking things at a rate that's suitable for the character (and the player).

Challenge is somewhat "manageable" in MW. You can and will fail at things, at least until your skills improve. It's a bit on the harsh side (some things probably fall into the "brutal" category), but it beats playing a game where you can't even attempt anything that's a point above your level, yet can't fail at anything that's at or below it. If there's no chance of failure, then it's not a "game", in my opinion. With no restrictions on training, and ready availability of spells, potions, and enchanted items that can assist you while you practice "weak" skills, a player soon learns how to cope with the failure mechanisms in the game. Unfortunately, the steep "learning curve" can be brutal on new players.

The variety of conversation topics more than makes up for the lack of voicing. The wide variety of armor and weapons, with the ability to "mix and match" pieces to suit just about any playing style or "look", beats that of almost anything else I've played before or since. The versatility of the skill and attribute system is a definite plus (despite the rather awkward "levelling" system attached to it). The mods have "matured" to the point where they can turn the game into almost anything you want it to be, and entirely new regions have been made that match or exceed the original content.

I played Oblivion to the bitter end of the MQ, and probably won't do it again. It was a good "adventure" game, but definitely didn't make me want to replay it; I kept feeling that SO MUCH was "missing" in terms of content and challenge outside of combat. Mods were a big help, but it seemed like the "best" mods were those which made it more like MW (OOO, MMM).

The fact that I can be whoever I want, and so have a different view on the world each time. This way, replay value is generally only limited by my creativity.

Morrowind is my favourite, and the one I've played for longest - but I'm putting more time into Oblivion lately.

Morrowind has that fabulous "alien" feel to it, with the mushroom trees and architecture. It has wonderful stories, great characters and really feels like "another world".

Oblivion is incredibly beautiful and really relaxing to play. I love the KOTN and Shivering Isles expansions, so I replay those sometimes, and love just ambling around Anvil doing side-quests.

Can't decide between Morrowind and Oblivion.

Oblivion because gameplay, graphics, and mods.
Morrowind because world, atmosphere, nostalgia, story, and mods.

I don't play TES anymore. I don't mod or roleplay, so after spending thousands of hours exploring MW, there isn't anything more for me to do.

If anyone takes notice of me and my posts on this forum, you'll have a fair idea on my opinion of OB.

I can't stand shooters, sports games or linear rpg's, so i don't play 99% of games.

I came here because of my past adoration of MW, and my hopes for worthy successor.

morrowind, not only for mods, but personally I get the tools working for it,admit only limited understanding of EE,but enough of it I get,and the morrowind part of the community works better for me,personally :P

oblivion after the good looking wow-factor that lasted a few hours, some mods added to it,new material comes, and shivering isles extended its life some, but I?m just bored with it now.
the folks who likes shooters and such can have their rpg hack?n slash,"python and obmm-fun",no pun intended,it just don?t work for me.
I do play some oblivion but that is purely for mods, and some nice makers of those mods also helps :D

1) Daggerfall for the reasons already mentioned by some others. You really feel like you are part of the world, due to it not solely revolving around you everywhere you go.

2) Morrowind would be second, solid game there. Wish it was bigger/longer.

Last) Oblivion - Graphics are the only thing it has over the other games, and that just isn't enough to keep me playing it. Mods can make it ok though.
