What Kind of Laptop Do You Use?

Post » Sat Mar 05, 2016 12:04 am

I'm probably upgrading soon when the new line of MacBook Pros come out, super stoked for it. Right now, I have a 13in MacBook Pro for web development -- ruby, rails, sass, node.js, etc. I'm just wondering what everyone else uses, and if there are any developers in here who use something different or might recommend a 15in over a 13in, since I'm upgrading soon.

Last laptop I bought was a Toshiba Satellite something...mainly bought it to do engineering design (Solidworks). I could run SW:ToR on it, but barely (enough performance to handle PvP).

I wont be getting another laptop unless it is something like a tablet hybrid that can hook up seamlessly to a desktop. I need a new desktop waaay more.

I use both, mostly desktop for games and programming when I need a bigger screen.

I hate laptops and I hate Macbooks

I have a Surface Pro 2 running Ubuntu (Unity has pretty good touch support). Nothing is better for on-the-go productivity IMO.

Technically for work I have a Dell laptop running Windows 7, but I just dock it and use it as a desktop and never use it for personal stuff.

I have Ubuntu dual-booted with Windows on desktop, all my bases covered. For on the go, the pro has been pretty good, daily driver for over a year, 10+ hours of battery. For me, it's symmetry and design has always been a source of inspiration personally.

A 7-8 year old crappy Gateway. I don't actually use it much any more.

Blech...laptops...:P

I don't work on a laptop unless I have to. Not development work, anyway. The small screens (and just one of 'em!) and lousy keyboards alone drive me nuts. I know I can use an external monitors and keyboards, but if I have those that means I'm at home or at work where I have nice workstations to use. ;)
