What kind of mage are you going to be?

Post » Sun Jan 23, 2011 11:41 am

OK, so many of us are going to play their first Skyrim character as a mage, beacuse as we all know, mages are awesome, and they can pretty much do anything that the other two major classes can do, and better, plus a whole lot more. So what kind of mage will you be? To the polls!

Thread in progress? You know you could have just typed everything occasionally hitting "preview post" to make sure it looks right instead of editing stuff in right? :P

Anyway, I'm the kind of mage who uses magicka to supplement my stealthy ways. :ninja:

Well hopefully they make it more so I don't require a weapon. I don't want any weapon except my staff. Previous games haven't realistically catered for good decense for mages, just lots of running around backwards in circles launching fire balls.

Aside from that I'm just hoping that you get rewarded well for playing pure Mage with some nice perks and additional spells. It makes much more sense for pure mages to be able to have better spells than any other player type.

Mages I have played in other TES games seemed really cowardice due to having to run away constantly and using invisibility too much. I want my Mage to feel truly powerful and capable to stand and fight against anyone.

My first character won't use magic, though I'll have to enchant most likely. The games seem to assume you'll enchant yourself pretty heavily, so playing without any spells or enchantments puts you at a big disadvantage.

I probably will make an Illusion caster at some point though. Enough Destruction to be able to kill things, but mainly Illusion.

A dual-spellcaster with an all-around skillset in all magic schools (that would be master or the best possible). I'll own and pwn every living creature in Skyrim with my flaming, freezing and shocking hands.

Yeah, I would like that. It would be great to feel as if the effort put into omly raising magic skills is rewarded with additional spells.

I would also like the same spells to visually look different the higher the corresponding magic stat is raised.

I lean towards the Dunmer, but for a straight mage, I'd go to Altmer. Now, if they do away with the Altmers advantage in magic points, I may have to rethink it. In terms of schools, I love Illusion. Nearly as much, I enjoy Conjuration and Alchemy. The rest of the skills take a back seat to those three, for my mage type.

Ha! I have no idea yet! I definitely willl create a pure mage, but until I'm actually in the game, I have no idea what he or she will wind up specializing in. That's actually a very beautiful way of looking at the possibilities.

Magic is important to almost every character I play, even my warriors dabble in it. My thieves all end up being thief/mages. Magic is just too handy not to use. Pure mages are among my favorite characters to play. I'm in a holding pattern right now about mages in Skyrim. I honestly have no idea what they will be like, whether they will have the same flexibility as the other games. Spell creation was essential to my pure mages, and not for exploits. I like to play Atronach/Wombburned mages, and spell creating allowed me to create spells that had varied magicka costs, so I wouldn't waste magicka. From what I hear, birthsigns might be gone, and spell creation too, so it sounds like everything is changing. Too early to tell.

1. Berserker Sorceror
Two Handed Sword
Destruction
Hopefully they will have a decent combo system, I'd like to swing my sword a couple of times then blast the enemy with a fireball at the end of my melee combo chain.
"Cast Lightening at Initiation, Swing, Swing, Swing, Fireball, Dodge, Block, Reposition, Look for Opening (repeat)"
Focus: Heavy dmg.

2. The Brain
Mysticism (Alteration)
Illusion
Hopefully Telekinesis is more like how Half Life 2's or Bioshocks Telekenetic power is. I will be mind controlling others, throwing objects and bodies at enemies and pretty much anything to do with messing with your mind I'll be doing...
I realize Mysticism is gone, but they will put the spells in another catagory, if I had to guess Alteration will have Telekinesis seeing that water walking is there and that's just a form of mind over matter IMO.

3. Summoner
Conjuration
Restoration
Hopefully we have better summons and more powerful summons... Sometimes I want to Summon something so powerful that all I have to do is sit back and let it take on enemies while I'm making spaghetti or something. My 3rd playthrough I normally get bored and lazy so this character tends to do the trick. Restoration is a good buff and heal choice for my summon. I'm not a huge fan of how Oblivion did it's Conjuration.. I don't like how there is such a short time for your summon to last. Id rather Summons be dependent on your mana.. Skeleton should cost 1mana per sec while other larger creatures cost more mana per second and dependong how fast your mana regenerates you could have that summon last untill it dies but it should be dependent on your Power and not a clock. IMO Also more control with my summoner would be nice... If I get into a fight I should be able to tell it to attack the a conjurer not a summon from a conjurer what a waste that is. Conjurers should be very powerful, but if you kill the Conjurer then you kill the summon so it's a pretty simple process.

In both morrowind and oblivion I was a conjurer with backup (while lacking) destruction skills. Ever since I played the necromancer in diablo II I am always the 'Go my minions' kind of guy.

I have always wanted to be an altmer but the stunted magica always stopped me. In morrowind, that was my first time in elderscolls and its a good thing I didn't pick altmer. In Oblivion I almost chose altmer but ended up going with breton. Maybe it's a good thing too because with the mundane ring + morag tong curiass I am invincible to magic!

However, I chose altmer in this poll. I think it's time I grew up and became a real mage.
