What kind of Plasma?

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 2:22 pm

I was wondering, How do you think the Plasma Weapons in F4 are going to feel like, a Fast, Accurate, Medium damage, sorta like F3, or a Very Slow, High Damage plasma seen is NV? i would like to see a Fallout 3 version with a higher Damage/DPS. How would you like them to be?

I prefer the New Vegas approach because it balances better with Laser weapons.

I agree, what's the point of having fast, medium damage plasma weapons and fast, medium damage laser weapons.

Laser weapons in F3 & F:NV have tended to be low damage, but quite accurate (hence scope mod) as they are outclassed by guns. i think laser weaponry needs some help :confused: , though Plasma could be more balanced as well

Accuracy mostly. Plasma weapons in Fallout 3 (as well as in New Vegas) were much more for close quarters fighting. At a certain distance with plasma rifles it becomes difficult to hit anything but large targets, and if the thing is moving then its all the moreso problematic.

Whereas with Laser weapons you can just about thread a needle with a shot.

But they still balance better if the speed and damage are different as well.

Damage is different, and the rate of fire is a bit different in Fallout 3. Much more pronounced in New Vegas though.

New Poseidon tech. The best of the best laser and plasma should outclass any conventional weapons. But not easily acquired at say level 4.

Isn't Poseidon an oil company, not a High-Tech Weapons producer? though they were tied to the encleave, would that mean new Enclave Tech?

They were the most powerful energy company in the world, but they also created many experimental technologies. They made Helios One which is where Archimedes is.

Indeed, Plasma weapons as balanced in the originals was slower higher powered then laser weapons. Lasers would be the more accurate faster firing.

Laser = energy assault weapons

plasma = energy cannons

I don't think they should be slow, but maybe take use up more AP and take longer between shots, and use more ammo.

maybe they could add a really powerful plasma cannon that shoots a massive powerful (not slow either) burst that causes a lot of damage, but take up even more ammo,AP/time between shots. This would obviously have to be a rare/hard to gain weapon.

I prefer the New Vegas approach because it balances better with Laser weapons.

A lot of old fans argue that their balance between other weapon sub-types down-play how strong laser and plasma weapons are compared to 1 and 2 even after J E Sawyer pointed out real world examples and their low strengths even when viable in real weaponry.

When I spoke to Pete Hines he downplayed BGS looking to New Vegas but I'm sure they will.

By all means knowing the playerbase and BGS I'm sure the energy weaponry may be boosted further and tweaks to make them stronger yet viable.

Though they may go the balance route as with the Enclave even when lore-wise their equipment was supposed to be superior.

Also keep in mind FO3 followed more of a natural progression route even between weapons han NV i.e. the chances of finding a plasma weapon on your 1st playthrough in the first hour are slim. Plus the lower weapon count differentiated tiers more.(Even if most players hung to the Chinese Assault Rifle as mid- late game weapons)

NV tried to make all skill paths viable from Goodsprings. Some argue with plasma weapons they didn't as the starting ones weren't the best before patch boosters. Others again argue plasma weapons should be late game powerhouses like FO 1

They put the Energy in Energy Weapons. Lol. But ya, they made weapons. One of the cooler and interesting pre-war companies, imo.

Fallout brotherhood of steel had plasma cannon. :) So yes, im all for it.Also plasma weapons should be same as in fallout 3. They should be high end weapons, not pistols with green bullets like they did in new vegas.

The ones in Fallout: New Vegas, the Glock 86 and the Winchester P94, are the same as in Fallout 1, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics. You don't like them bringing back the old-school weapons? Personally, I think it's weird how all the weapons already established in the lore just vanished like that, I mean, where are all the Wattz weaponry? The Wattz 2000 is much cooler than what we have now. I hope they bring it back and maybe make it a sniper laser rifle or something, since it looks more like a long range weapon than that boxy thing.

Edit: I also wish for Bethesda to make the deaths by energy weapons cooler like in the old games, it's pretty gay like it is now, one of the main reasons I don't use energy weapons. A pile of ash, a pile of goo? Sigh... I want a laser weapon to cut off limbs like a hot knife through butter, like in Fallout 1 - cutting off the person in the middle by the waist. I want plasma weapons to melt a person in a pile of... BLOOD AND FLESH! Not green, shiny goo like it was a vampire from Twilight or some ectoplasm from Ghost Busters. It's more like the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FftEeQmuDWM&feature=fvwrel but faster. It's much more brutal, like Fallout should be. Death scenes are a bit childish right now as it is. I also want the death animation of the burst fire mode from the old games, it's the most satisfying experience in any game ever. The sound of bullets ripping his body apart as he gives away a guttural scream, seeing his arm and his head fly off and his broken ribcage sticking out of his side. In that way, the older games have much better graphics than of those today, it doesn't satisfy me as much killing people when their bodies just bump around and fall in awkward positions as ragdolls..

If they brought back those death animations they better bring back the minigun one where you tear them apart.

Both? I loved Energy weapons in both games, and found they hugely powerful. I could kill a deathclaw in F3 in one shot with the A23's Rifle and the experimental plasma rifle owned. F3 had issues with ammo and weapons availability in the beginning, but it should. However, NV had no problem whatsoever between the laser gun owning, plasma pistol in the first town you encounter Caesar's army, and the place with the ghouls wanting to fly to the sun. And don't even get me started on the Gauss Rifle in NV.

Plasma for life.

As for the question, I hope the keep plasma slow moving, packing a punch. Recipe for success: get enemies' attention > duck behind a corner > wait until they run around it > VATS > headshot.
