What kind of ruins will Skyrim contain?

Post » Mon Aug 31, 2009 4:22 pm

I'd like to see shrines to the Daedric princes as ruins, like some of the ones found in Oblivion/Bloodmoon. Nords were known to worship Daedra and have a history with Hermaeus Mora, and there are certainly Nord undertones to Hircine and Ebonarm, though with Ebonarms relationship with the fighters guild it probably would not make sense to have ruins for him.

Falmer ruins make the most sense, with the possibility open to have an Ayleid ruin or two along the southern border and a Dwemer ruin or two along the Morrowind border. I'd love to see that, if only for the tileset variety :)

Dwemer ruins would be awesome. Still, to make creating a dwemer tileset worthwhile they'd probably have to use it for more than just one or two ruins...

A bit of everything would be good... Mostly Falmer though.

I voted Falmer, but I hope there's lots of variety. While I loved stumbling across an Ayleid ruin in OB, the novelty kind of wore off once you realised there was one popping up every 15min or so on your travels.

Voted Falmer, because the prospect of snow elf ruins appeals to me, and I fully expect Bethesda's artists to do a great job of making the structures look old and atmospheric. But I'd also like to see more variety in ruins; is it possible/likely there'll be Nord (Nordic?) ruins in Skyrim, given the possibility of civil war? Some half-ruined castles and abandoned towers would be nice to see.

I'd like to see Dwemer and/or Daedric ruins make a return as well, if they'd exist in the province at all.

So i guess the title says all, what kinda ruins are we gonna see in Skyrim? i personally think there will be Falmer ruins. For those who dont know, the Falmer were the previous inhabitants of Skyrim, before the Nords came.

If they were there before the nords, why wouldn't it be their ruins?

Well, what also broke it for me in Oblivion was that none of the ruins or mines made any sense.

Falmer in the mainland, Dwemer near the Morrowind border, Ayleid near the Cyrodiil border.

Several kinds of ruins would be way more interesting than "Here's a ruin." "Oh, cool. Are there any other kin-" "HERE IS A RUIN."

Falmer sounds most interesting to me.

It would be neat if Skyrim had more then like 2 kind of stock ruins, though. It would also be fun if we got to play a little bit of archaeology in the ruins as well while we loot them.

According to lore, I think the only proof of the existence of the falmer is a book, so fi there are falmer ruins, they won't be easy too find. (and finding them will be a quest)

Anyways :

Ruined Imperial forts
Ruined Nord forts
Mer ruins
dwemer ruins
Ruined Bretons and Redguards forts. (The War of the Bend'r-mahk expanded Skyrim far into Hammerfell and High Rock)

I'm also hoping for more puzzles in the dungeons. That's something that I need more of, some interesting, un-cliche'd puzzles, maybe a whole dungeon that has only puzzles as obstacles. And more unique, non-quest related dungeons with their own unique stories, boss monster and unique loot.

According to lore, the Falmer left no ruins, but I wouldn't be surprised if we ran into some of those in the game.

There's might also be some ruined Akaviri forts from the last time the Akaviri invaded Skyrim, though I'm not sure if the Akaviri inhabitation lasted long enough for them to build forts.

Wasn't it the Akaviri who built Cloud Ruler Temple - the Blades Stronghold in Oblivion? I definitely think we should see at least a few Akaviri ruins, since they were able to build a fortress as far south as Bruma. I for one would like to see more of the asian-inspired architecture. I'm not saying they should be common, or large, but seems like there should at least be a few.

Other.

You know... Nordic ruins.

Given that Falmer are currently relegated to legend and there is no evidence for their existence outside of folk tales I don't think we can assume that there will be copious ruins of theirs littered about the place like forts in Cyrodiil. Otherwise they wouldn't be legends...

Of course lore can be expanded but given our current knowledge I would say Nordic ruins and maybe Ayleid.

Why just one? We can have all sorts!

But personally I'm hoping there will be more Dwemer - I loved the Steampunk style - and it'll be interesting to see what the Falmer really are.

On a totally related note - BRING KRISH BACK!

I'm hoping for an ancient Nord mead hall, high in the mountains, and buried underneath a glacier. And inside, there's a pile of undead naked Nords awaiting visitors. But instead of wanting to eat your brains, they offer you mead, boast of their trophies mounted on the walls, and try to swindle you into a quest to retrieve a legendary axe that was stolen by some elf chick (who is also undead, but in a neighboring dungeon)

I'm not really in touch with the lore, but as long as the ruins and dungeons have more variety than Oblivion, I'm happy.

Probably fort ruins, like in OB. I would imagine many caves as well.

I'm sure we'll see new types of ruins that we've never seen before in game. Morrowind introduced Dwemer, and Oblivion introduced Ayleid...I'm sure the Devs will give us a whole new type to explore.
