I think Skyrim will run through Steam, so expect Achievements.

Wait so we have to have online verification to play?

I guess it will work like Fallout NV: You have to register the game once online on Steam, then you can play it even when Steam runs in offline mode.

I want the achievements to be achievements for doing special things, not how they were in Oblivion, which was an achievement for each point in a questline, which svcked imo.

You're right! It's not an achievment to play the game - achievements should be for doing something out of the ordinary, or something really difficult.

I don't care for achievements. If they come along as i play fair enough, but it's not why i play games. I do not specifically look for them. I don't care about gamer score either.
This, and I hope they don't bloody pop up on my screen while playing.

Achievements?

Couldn't really care less, they are kinda pointless.

I find it really odd and curious how people are so enthralled by them.

Hey, I find it odd how people are so in favour of being able to see your own feet in first person view, but that's just me.

Hey, I find it odd how people are so in favour of being able to see your own feet in first person view, but that's just me.

People definitely have different preferences, and rightfully so.
It's just that I think a game should reward you with the gameplay, story and feel, not some pointless and meaningless "rewards" like achievements.
Example: You should not be rewarded with an achievement for reading all books in the game, the reward is the stories and lore those books contain.

It certainly doesn't help that most achievements are stupid, like "Reach level 10", "Kill 100 enemies" or "Kill your first boss". Stuff that you do anyway, just playing the game.

As for seeing your own body and feet in first person, have you ever played a game where they did that?
Personally, I feel it makes your character feel so much more real, the same way casting a shadow does, or how sprinting makes your character pant. You are not just a floating camera.
Sadly, I can only remember having played one game recently which has this, which was Mirror's Edge. But this is offtopic!

Like a rock- be overencumbered over 150 times.

Titanic- find the ship out in the north that crashed into the glaciers.

You first- have your follower go into a fight and die before you begin twice.

This is not a waterpark!- jump off a waterfall into water and live.(Must be a height of 200 ft.)

something that inspires you to play the game in different ways, not just reward you for advance in the Main quest.

I disagree. Oblivion is the only game where I've gotten -every- achievement. I want people to see that I love this series on my profile. So I want it Oblivion style. Every rank of every guild, every major turn in the main quest.
Maybe a few extra thrown in.

One of the things I liked about Fable 2 were the acheivements, where they had stuff other than completing the main quest. Also, the flavour text changed if you completed the acheivement to something funny. I liked it :) .
A few suggestions;

'Ol Smithy : Craft X number of weapons/armour.
Will The Real Dragonborn Please Stand Up : Get your fame the highest it can go.
Accept No Substitutes : Accept a quest, kill the quest giver and then kill the quest giver that replaced the last one you killed.
Diggy Diggy Hole! : Find X number of hidden chests.
Quest-Bot-3000 : Complete X number of quests.
Saboteur : Complete an act of sabotage without being caught.
I Am The Law! : Successfully kill all the guards in a town.
Perky : Get the max number of perks.
Jack of All Guilds : Join all factions at once.
Reign Of Fire : Kill a dragon with the Dragonbreath shout.
Re-Enaction : Kill a dragon while wearing the same equipment as the trailer Dragonborn.
Max Von Sydowned : Knock out Esbern with your fists.

This. Achievements should feel rewarding. And of course, the obvious ones like Kill your first dragon, Beat the story on X difficulty and Find all locations, but there will always be some good ones that encourage you to try something different

I wouyld like some fun ones, like jump off a mountain into a river

Fun achievements are the best achievements. Like The Saboteur's achievements for
Spoiler
Jumping off the Eiffel Tower and surviving
and
Spoiler
Smoking 100 cigarettes

Obviously there are gonna be achievements for the main quest and probably game time
I think some of the other achievements should encourage you to play in a way you may not have thought of. So when you see an achievement on the list you can say "Well I honestly wouldn't have thought to do anything like that. That could be fun though, let's go!"

P.S First post! Whoo!
