What is known of the Dwemer language?

Post » Thu Jul 05, 2012 7:09 am

Do we have solid examples of their language and has it been deciphered?

Also anything else related to the Dwemer language.

A friend of mine on Xbox live claimed his gf deciphered the language. Whether or not that is a credible claim, I have yet to find out. Whether or not that is even worth mentioning in terms of lore findings, I also do not know.

Thoughts?

For whatever reason, Umaril writes in the Dwemer language. I believe that it's actually fairly similar to the other elven languages.

The font comes from the same origin, Ehlnofex(?)
UESP has a page that translated one of the Dwemer texts from Skyrim or Morrowind and it had all the same consonant patterns you see in the ruin names.

The greatest example is probably the names of the Dwemer ruins in Morrowind and Skyrim.

Interesting that bit about Umaril though as Korumi said it is likely because of similarities between the mer peoples at the time. Maube their is a unified aldmer writing system that was pretty much in use to some degree or another by the ancient mer races.

So this isnt a big find then correct? Damn, he was all excited about his gf figuring it out too...

That page on the UESP always turns up blank for me. I've only been able to find the not completely translated set of runes on the old whirling school dwemer studies/orrery site.

Seems he posted it on the UESP discussions page. Need to take a look at it but im on mobile. He said something about Calcemo and a Rosettas stone. Sounds like it is probably the one from a certain quest in Markarth.

The Morrowind Dwemer, the Rourken, the Ayleid, and the Falmer all share an Ehlnofex derivative script, with some variations. Fonts exist for all but the Morrowind Dwemer script, so deciphering them is nothing big.

A new quest in Dawnguard reveals the meaning of one or two Dwemer words.

Katria's Journal mentions 'Bthar-zel' means 'allied city', but there's a question mark after it.
