The Holorifle can dismantle all of them without requiring a high energy weapons skill. I'd go that.

A sniper of some sort, a far distance for sneak attacks, few grenade/missiles if they get closer and the alien blaster for good measure :D :gun: :D :deal:
Sneak tho IS USELESS againist deathclaws if you try walking around them, they always hear/see/eat you :bolt:

I typically go up and around the left hand side, taking out the few that hang out "upstairs" on the higher elevation. Then I climb up the conveyor belt machine and from there I am far enough away that they never find me. This may be "cheap" but I'm a "sniper" and they're not supposed to find me. I've done this at level 13 though I typically wait for level 15 or higher to bother. Guns depend on whether or not I went for Cowboy. With it: Trail Carbine. Without, silenced sniper. Either way I prefer AP or specialty rounds.

The level is "whatever level you can effectively use a gauss rifle or anti-mat rifle for sneak headshots on them".

A deathclaw is not verifiably dead until its neck is a bloody stump.

if you have HH get the compliance regulator and get them paralyzed then your companions (preferably boone and ed e ) can take em out while you work on the next one and it doesnt hurt to have a heavy hitting gun on your hotkey for when things get nasty

You must have had several hundred shotgun shells, seeing that the damage per shotgun pellet would have been completely DT-resisted by a deathclaw leaving only the 15(?) percent damage leak-through.

I only play very hard difficulty, the YCS/186 is the most powerful long-range energy weapon, even with maxed charged cells and maxed energy weapon skill, if you don't hit the head with a critical shot, the deathclaw will still be alive.

and what weapons are recommended?

I'd recommend being at least over level 20 with a very high level (if not maxed) guns and sneak skills.

For a weapon the anti material rifle with custom created ammo will really help out.

Cheers
