What level should i cap myself at?

Post » Thu Jan 30, 2014 3:14 pm

so i always hate how if i want to level auxillary skills, my level increases, which makes the enemies jump at certain level rangers. like at level 17, its smooth sailing, but at level 20, it gets really tough, especially if you are sneaking a lot and your sneak skill, which isnt combative, pushes your level up. but i like to sneak, i like to play around with potions, merchants, pockets, all the skills, really. so, im thinking about hitting a certain level and then never looking up at my skills again to let my character level change.

if i were to do this, i would want to do it at just high enough of a level to deal damage, but not too low to get wrecked myself.

so, to achieve this perfect level, i would love some statistical feedback as to when certain enemies spawn. i was looking around searching for enemy scaling but i couldnt find it myself.

so yeah, the levels where certain enemies start appearing would be great, ie. when does each step of new common draugr come? like where restless becomes common, then when wright becomes common, etc.

same goes for bandits. bandits to outlaws to thugs? and dragons too? i know there is a level where you see less "dragon"s and more "blood dragons" etc.

so yeah this would be greatly appreciated :D

edit -

lol decided to look up those types of enemies and found the levels ive been looking for.

level 12 puts you in the range just below draugr wrights, but above bandit thugs. 12 is also below the range for blood dragons to spawn, placing the capped character at, theoretically, a balanced low level.

level 18 puts the player at a range where bandit highwaymen spawn, but plunderers do not. it also allows up to draugr scourges to spawn, and is the minimum level to see blood dragons. this would be a good level for more of a challenging low level cap, since higher level enemies will be spawned

starting at 21 (draugr) and 25 (bandit) and then finally 27 (dragon), more intermediate leveled enemies spawn so that would be the range to stop for higher level 'low level' play.

im sortof torn between deciding either level 12 or 18 for my character though

This info is on the UESP scattered around. Look up each type enemy and there will be a list of level distribution.

Here is Draugr as an example:

The issue with this game is if you focus on one or two skills, then you can end up leveling above what you can handle. Like you practice Smithing, but your combat skills are left alone, then you can't handle the enemies after you level.

If you build your 5 to 7 main skills up equally (attack, defense, recovery, augmentation, assistance skills) then the game's levels don't really matter. It is still smooth sailing on my level 55 character, but only because my main skills were all built up equally. Same with my other characters that I have made and retired during the 20's to 30's in levels.

How about 252 or no level at all?

I generally consider 45-50 to be a pretty good marker for retirement. Highest level I've ever been, I think is level 53 for my Bosmer.

Of course, I've never bothered attempting to max out all skills. No jack of all trades here.

You're not a jack just because you level all skills to 100. You turn a jack if you start specify in all skills and adjust your health/magicka/stamina somewhat evenly.

Health/maggicka/stamina aren't skills/trades, which is they were omitted.

So in a nutshell, yes, maxing all skills, regardless of your H/M/S allocation=Jack of all trades. There really isn't any other way to put it, so we may just have to agree to disagree on that.

I think Barrett is right here. You can have nothing invested in magicka and still be jack of all trades
