What I liked about Morrowind and Oblivion

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 1:32 pm

Hi all,

I don't usually post on forums, but I think this time I will,

There are three major reasons why I think Morrowind and Oblivion where great games, I'm not sure if others will think the same, so I'd like to make my feelings known.

The first is the loneliness that can be felt in both games, wandering about the wastes, making sure that your characters got back to a city before nightfall, none of which is necessary for the gameplay but just enhanced the RPG nature of the game.
The second is having a home; I absolutely loved 'Rosethorn Manor' in Oblivion.
Finally the exploration, not part of the main quest – just finding things and places for no other reason that just to explore. In Fallout 3 vault 22 – finding that was very interesting, the contrast with the surrounding areas.

So if there are any developers reading this, if you want my top score, get the loneliness, exploration and expand on the owning of homes and allow building camps too.

I can see this better suited in the TES general discussion honestly, as this really has nothing to do with Skryim.

But I quite like those things about Morrowind and Oblivion too. :)

Was just hoping that any devs for Skyrim might read this and give a little thought.

I think he's implying that those are some things he'd like to see in Skyrim based on what he found fun in Oblivion and Morrowind...

I would bet a lot of money on you being able to explore, and I'm sure there will be a 'lonely' feel out in the wilderness away from the cities.

I loved Rosethorn Manor too, but i'm not as sure about owning houses because I've heard that taverns and inns are going to be more important in this game - and having less/much more expensive houses could achieve that.

Yes I was!

Sounds good, if you really have to work hard to buy a place, then it enhances the RPG feel of the game, something to really work for. Taverns and Inns are always good be they in a game or real life :-)

Totally agree with your feelings on TES games.
Building camps, yes. There is a portable campsite mod for Oblivion, and setting up your own camp would fit in Skyrim very well.

It's cool that I not the only one who thinks these are important aspects for the TES games, that help to enchance the RPG nature. In contrast I've been playing DA:O2 and in my opinon I find it a very souless game.

I played DA:O on pc and found it quite fun, but I hated how limited the 'exploration' was. The whole game just felt like it was on rails...

I played the demo of DA 2 (on ps3), and it felt horrible! Seemed like they focused on action over depth.

I know Skyrim will be brilliant though - can't wait :)

Yes the same, I enjoyed DA:O alot but 2 is not even the same type of game as 1, feels more like Dungeon Siege.
