what looked better- the morrowind version or the oblivion ve

Post » Sun Dec 04, 2011 8:28 am

i think oblivion stepped back on a few things- for example

in morrowind i preferred...

the look of daedroths- they looked so ugly in oblivion. i prefered the skinnier man crocodiles with loincloths than the thing we had in oblivion
deadric armour
orcish armour- samurai's ftw!!!
dremora- they had cool tattoos and i think with today's technology they should be able to turn to ash upon death so much better
soul gems - they were pretty and easy to tell apart. some nice refractions would be great too.
dwemer architecture - bronze is better than silver :). i think a shinier bronze would be the way to go.
dumner

i did like the way oblivion did a few things tho
golden saints- id prefer if we could get their Armour in separate pieces this time
clanfears- they looked so much better more raptor like
dwemer armour

things that i think looked bad in both games
iron
steel
ebony
rats
imperial armour
glass armour
orcs
wood elves
redguards
khajits and argonians

im not trolling or anything but, the daedric battle axe looked like a plastic axe in oblivion. (in other words, the blade was way to thick)

I mostly think like you, but in the daedroth case I think totally otherwise. I find the hulking oblivion daedroth a lot more intimidating.

It's incredible how different opinions two person can have. I can't explain how cool I find Oblivion daedroth.

I liked the look of the Daedroths in Oblivion over Morrowind, as well as clanfears and scamps.
I hated the look of glass everything in Oblvion.

I absolutely love Morrowind's version of glass and ebony. A glass helm on a khajiit is boss.

From what I remember
I preffered...

Morrowinds daedric weapons (especially)
Morrowinds weapons in general
Morrowind's city layout
Oblivion's landscape (Morrowind was too stale grey brown for me, everything felt like mud)
Oblivion's orcish armour and Dwarven Armour
Oblivion's graphics

Some things that were equal were...

City design. Morrowind had more variation, including some really cool plant buildings, but Oblivion's were more numerous in style and much nicer and more intricate
Animals. More mundane in Oblivion but some of the Morrowind ones looked really stupid (Crocodile head on legs).

While I liked the glass armor at first it took only one comment along the lines of "flaming green clown" to never get that image out of my head when I thought of glass armor.

Let's see higher level armor options that look like a warriors armor and not a costume for a medieval YMCA danceathon.

Oh wayt...this was a which one is better thread...

You know...now that you mention it, I can't help myself from seeing the same thing. Such a damn ugly axe.

No idea how Argonians can possibly wear those though. Can they fold their heads? :P

I actually loved Oblivion's glass gear, it looked so uber. It was bloody hideous though, and kind of silly, but I think I was in love with the transparency effects.

Daedric was far better in Morrowind, and I think lighter armors looked better too.

I can't stand the skinny daedroth. In oblivion they could be a real challenge when you thought it was full of scamps, with their huge bulk and reach. Morrrowind was like fighting a furry dressed as a crocodile in that respect.

I liked the daedroth in Oblivion very much... in fact, it's pretty much my favorite summons, because it makes a great meat shield to hide behind. :) (The clannfear in OB was also way cooler looking than its MW counterpart. Also a great summons... nothing like a crazy-stupid animal to go tearing after... the nearest deer, ignoring nearby marauders.)

I like the glass armor idea for Oblivion, but hated the bright color. That goes for the amber stuff in Shivering Isles too. The color choices and scale of the brightness (hint: neon is just bad for ES fantasy, mkay?) was just always jarring for me. I did love elven armor in OB, except for the boots.

I am not sure I have ever like helms in almost any game. Bioware is notorious for creating ass-tastic headgear. That's why having an option to toggle the visual is a must. Most of the helms in both games were either silly or meh. Except the Colovian Fur Helm. Pure. Awesomeness. :D I had a character wear the Colovian fur helm through most of the game, just... because. (Then again, I am pretty easily amused obviously.)

The daedroth in Oblivion looked like big stuffed animals or balloons or something. Their size mixed with their animations just wasn't natural.

Glass armour in Morrowind was amazing, definitely the best suit of armour in the game. I really liked Oblivion's greyish color for the Daedric armour, though. It was cooler than the black.

One of the most dis-satisfying changes in Oblivion IMHO, was the look of the elves, especially the Bosmers, and I do not even want to talk about the voices.

In terms of looks only? It could honestly be a huge thread yet someone who wails about pricing, in some next forum-section, must evidently be more interesting.

Things I liked in Morrowind over oblivion:

Dwemer Ruins: I liked the architectural features in general, I would agree that they are more memorable than Ayleid ruins
Different kinds of Armour: Again agreed, the glass armour-sets were really good (don't normally play with armour)
Variety in Flora/Fauna: Travelling to the bitter-coast or near Red Mountain makes you instantly aware of a change of pace, rather than just adding snow or an exotic tree
The Exquisite shirt: Something which I look forward to in every game

Things I liked in Oblivion:

Deadra: Xivilai and Dremora look absolutely stunning and fearsome, like any self-respected demon-entity should look
Horses: Horses! You can't deny horses, and the unicorn prevails over all
Vegetation Detail: still makes the game visually amazing
Staves: Something like the 'Staff of Worms' on your back actually makes you look like a spellcaster

There are probably more things....:/

Dont forget candles, buglights, lamps in various colours.
How annoying that Oblivion only had lame torches.

Yes, I agree.
Im one of those people that think Morrowind was the superior game over Oblivion in every conceivable way, including graphics.

In Morrowind I liked the Elven face structure better and the body structure was better for every race in Morrowind than Oblivion. Morrowind also had both clothing and armor at the same time and also the amount of armor pieces is better than the way of fewer amount of armor pieces in Oblivion. Oblivion is better in everything else.

For me:

Oblivion:

Daedric Equipment
Dwarven Armor
Imperial Legion Armor
Ebony Equipment (although I would have preferred a closed helmet rather than the open one)
Interior lighting (would have been nice if it changed depending on the time of day and weather, but at least the windows actually had light shining through them)
Environments (Cyrodiil may not have had the stark contrast between regions that Morrowind did, but TES IV made up for it with being able to visit the Deadlands and Shivering Isles)
Golden Saints
Dremora
Katanas

Morrowind:

Faces
Glass Equipment
Orcish Armor
Iron Armor
Dark Brotherhood Armor
Goldbrand
