What I am looking for in Brink

Post » Sat Dec 04, 2010 10:35 am

with Brink just around the corner, I start to lurk the forum and watch as much gameplay as I can, and from what I can tell, these are the things I am looking for in Brink as a multiplayer shooter

- Character customization
Something way over the top here, many more options than Reach, and full color customization.... Hot pink gas mask? p10x?

-Teamwork
The videos seem to point out that even if I am sitting around in party chat, telling my friends about how I love [censored], I am still helping the team simply by selecting what objective I want to hit. I like to refer to this as "subliminal team building" Me playing as a light character, a medic tossing me a syringe before I jump into the air duct would be nice, and give us both a hefty experience boost later on

- My gun, my way.
If I want to have a semi-auto rifle that is about average weight, as not to slow me down, but let me do a bit more damage than a pistol, than I expect the upgrades to allow me to do this. But I also don't want to be able to one-shot kill somebody. Even if it is a headshot. This would make me a powerhouse and I want to win with skill, not my uber gun that looks like its fresh out of "Pimp my Gat"

-An easy going community
Dropping into CoD lobbies is like walking in on a KKK meeting. Halo however filled with little kids, was not easy to get angry at. No frustration with silly kills or the infamous "360 No-Scope"

-Good servers
When I put in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood I also go make some popcorn for the lobby time. Please do not make me wait this long....

-Smooth movement
The videos seem to me like the movement looks a little blocky. I'm hoping I'm wrong

-Simplistic communication
You see that kid drooling on his pencil in class? He isn't going to read anything. He needs a big shiny arrow telling him "Hey, your support and medic are capturing this. You should go help them before the sharks get here"

-Different play lists
Something edgy like 1 v 1, or at least some custom games that I can host with my friends for our personal tournaments

I know its far too late to add any features, but If at all possible, having these things updated later on would be cool. Or maybe they already are in the game, just not announced

Yep. I think that's a solid list. The weapon customization is what I'm most worried about considering we haven't heard anything on it since some of the first videos.

I hope, that if Brink fail you in any of these u won't just complain about them.Every game may possible have bugs or unbalance issues or w/e,if we give them a "normal" feedback they'll fix it as soon as possible.

I'm saying this cause i see that u overhyped this game.Maybe it's good that u did,but if u won't like something pls don't start just complaining,we can discuss everything.

Now,for Assassins Creed: Brotherhood, runs smoothly in my laptop,no problem whatsoever...

And,2 weeks is not around the corner,i feel it around 12 corners away :(

I would hesitate to judge the movement based on uploaded youtube vids that seem to have been made using an xbox. Also a majority of the vids are not in HD, so Im assuming / hoping it looks better on my own tv.

on a related note... is the PS3 version 720p or 1080p? and does it support 3D? havent been able to find this out yet.

Also on the "servers" thing - ACB's problem isn't with the servers, it's with the matchmaking. And lately, they decided to try and speed up the matchmaking. Instead, they managed to increase lag. They increased the host tolerance for laggy players slightly, which should mean a wider group will be paired up against one another - it made a slight improvement to the speed with which a group will be assembled, but mainly it just increased the amount of matches you get where people are teleporting, invisible, flying half a mile through smoke, and other silliness.

It doesn't seem to be getting looked at seriously, either.

I don't think I am over hyped over it, and I know that Brink won't be the "perfect" game. But I think everything up there is a realistic expectation, or at least can be balanced over time. And that's fine, when a game comes out, I expect it to have a lot of updates. Even though it is out of "beta" I expect to be sort of a post-beta tester for it.

I also seem like one of the few, the proud, and the brave, getting it for Xbox, so I might pick it up for computer as well to test this laptop... I got it less than a year ago, so....
