What's a Machine-ima? The Brink Machinima Thread Part 3

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 6:07 pm

Alright, sicne the last topic topped off (again) at 203, we need another one. So, let's keep the discussion going. The last post was:

Could we maybe start a Steam group to organise chat?

Idk, if it would make it easier on everyone, and I do believe Steam is free if I'm not mistaken, then it would be cool.

Also, I had an idea for another Machinima that we could do on the side. I was thinking that we could name our original Machinima "On the Frontlines." And we could name this one: "Off the Frontlines." It would be much more comical, and kind of just a joke Machinima, but I think it'd be fun to write and watch. We could do 3 characters (not archetypes). I was thinking 2 Engineers and 1 Medic, just because they're not combat essential jobs. We could have them just going about doing stuff, and we coud have this go in so many directions. What do you think?

If you wish to be an actor:
1. PM ItalianDevil, or urbanshadow.
2. Please have a none modded voice recording. (Can put it on youtube or something)
3. Parts left:
Lost (temp)
Eel (temp)
Voice (temp)
Bouncer (temp)
Sweat
Current actors and roles:
Super Pangolin -good cop
hulk sloth-anger
Injek- The Jesse
Awesomename- warrior
Own4g3- firestarter
Urban shadow-dude
JoeH70-the Shield
Me-The Look
Wraith- the freak
Player not found-wasted
Ninjat_126- Bug
Skynet- The G
Jorrg-fortress
allchiefedup -Bomb
Twisted- Psycho (temp character)
Behind the scene guys:
Dr.Ricktofen- assistant script writer
UrbanShadow-idea guy
Wraith-idea guy
Jorrrg-idea guy
jordanman13 - assistant script writer

Please post ideas or questions. Thank you

Well, I'm not exactly into using steam, but if it helps the machinima I'll use it simply for chat, I just thought we'd end up just e-mailing the scripts to the people in the episode getting them to speak their roles, email it back, and if the editors say the voice doesn't sound right, have the voice actor try several times.

Voice acting is a lot more involved than that. The writers/directors need to tell you what to change on a line by line basis. "you should sound more angry when you say this, more calm when you say this"

Doing full takes, having them be corrected, and trying again would take REALLY long, and would be a waste of effort.

That's true, I think it would make communication easier. Or we could just have a large message group on these forums for people to participate in

Or now that I think about it, a website would be pretty badass.

I don't have anything I'd be able to use to talk with on Steam, anyway. So unless I can pick up a computer headset for cheap.

I lied, my cousin said I could borrow his. :3 Steam here we come?

If someone wants to make a free one, I'd be fine with that.

btw, what'd everyone think of my idea about the side machinima?

I like the idea of the "side" machinima but I think it could be about all classes before they go into battle y'know calm before the storm kinda machinima but with comical relief every episode or so. Cause I'd like to see the characters signing up for the war, like at a office or something, and they're all using PDAs to sign up. But then again they would all have to be operatives to use the PDAs right? Also, I guess I'm just pitching an idea for a starting episode or even a "side side" machinima.

I was thinking more of a completely comical machinima, where nothing's taken seriously. More like Red vs Blue instead of a serious kind of thing

Thats what I mean its like comical but its before Brink, like showing the sillier side of the Ark. We can still add something like "This guy is bad, he wants to destroy the ARK", and all the characters work on defeating him, but all in a silly way. I guess I'm just using basic thoughts on this as I just woke up... :snoring:

If that were the case, I'd use completely different characters. No regular archetypes, as opposed to the main machinima where every character is a regular archetype.

And I'd be willing to be a voice in the humorous one, even if the characters are the same xP
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to push an idea if it's unwanted. I just wanted to throw it out there.

Yeah we could do that. I like that it's before Brink, and none of them are really combat experienced. I'd prefer to tell it from the Security side

Do you have to play on PC to help make or do anything for the Machinima?

I believe this is cross-platform, with a heavy focus on consoles.

Acting is on an Xbox, but if your on PS3 we'll pick up your slack and move the characters for you. Just send devil the recordings

Alright, looks like we got ourselves a little story to work with but like the last machinima we have planned we're gonna need writers and actors... oh boy, two machinimas are gonna be pain to manage. We should probably, start with the first one ItalianDevil and UrbanShadow had planned and move with a second "alternate" comical machinima at a later time... I'll be watching this thread and see what we get.

Well, I'd be willing to direct this second, more comical Machinima, as well as write it; I have plenty of spare time. If that's ok with everyone, I'd like to see who's interested in acting. Someone will also have to record the footage and edit it together.

I can only act and do voice acting, and am looking forward to being in a machinima, if I get the part as the voice in the original machinima, and hell, I'm willing to do more then be a temporary voice actor.

So, as I mentioned we're gonna need some support on this one, I can also pitch ideas if we run low, not all perfect but, I've had ideas to make machinimas on my own. But, I lost my chance to get a good capture card, and now I don't exactly have the money to get one now...

I'd be happy to help with the story and ideas for the second Machinima. I'm not amazing, but I'm not terrible.

And if you need any extras, I could do that too. I'm great at getting shot in the head, years of practice.

Well, if this one lifts off, we're definitely gonna need about two or three writers. What do you guys think?

Yeah, 2 or 3 writers would be good. We'll also need:
2 more voice actors (3 in total)
1 person who can record episodes (and one backup)
3 Script writers
2 Idea Guys (An Idea Guy can also be a script writer)
And one Technician who does the graphics and stuff

I have no idea about machinimas, because I've never messed around with that kind of thing - but wouldn't it be helpful for your Technician to have some Photoshop skills?
Just trying to contribute.

Yeah, that's what I meant by graphics. If worst comes to worst, I could be a Photoshop person
