What makes Fallout, Fallout?

Post » Mon Feb 01, 2010 1:58 am

We're having a big heated discussion about the post-nuclearness of F:NV. Now please DO NOT disucss that aspect - I only mention it because that is what generated the question.

I want to know what core element makes Fallout, Fallout. Try as best you can to be brief but elaborate if you must.

Mankind rebuilding after our biggest mistake. Rebuilding civilization. Rediscovering the past while looking to the future. "War.War never changes" comes from different peoples having different ideas of how to rebuild civilization.

An alternate timeline where the future as imagined in the 1950s came to pass comes crashing into the bleak abyss of nuclear apocalypse.

Civilisation, after finding the dreams of the perfect future shattered, coming back from the brink to reform themselves. Relearning old lessons, retracing old steps, and trying to learn from the old mistakes.

FEV, Nuclear Weapons, etc, this are the old mistakes that are still teaching the new civilisations.

To me the individuals struggle to stay independent.
That leads to greater communities to grow and expand on the small actions she / he / it set in place.

Shady sands - Khans - - Tandy - VD - NCR -the other city states - Tandy - CO - NCR in full control.
Is the best linear example I can think of.

Left alone those people and places would be dead, destroyed or just different.
With the individual you get the strong basis of a a superior society that stands on its own.
Casts off the one that helped it to grow as it has into a nation, making the individual a minor footnote in history.

This is what FO is to me, the emergence of a new state of unity at the expense of personal freedom.
Also why I like it so much I get to save the world, get no reward and walk off not to be rembered by anyone.

Fallout is the residual radioactive particles that settle to the ground from a nuclear explosion, aptly named because it "falls out" of the atmosphere into which it is spread during the explosion. It commonly refers to the radioactive dust created when a nuclear weapon explodes.

I just couldnt help myself.

The world being turned to cinders by nuclear fire and humanity rising out of the ashes. There is ethics, morality, and politics. How war never changes because of human reasons.

I could go on.

The complete destruction of the old world and building a new world. NOT -re-building, just building.

Think about it. Every time something of the old world shows up(The Unity uses FEV, The Enclave are the US, The NCR/Legion/House use old war ideals and tactics) they get nuked or massacred.

Nobody have nukes, so,

I simply dont see you point

The NCR have years reconstructing a civilization in California, never got nuked
The Unity had been destroyed by you, not by a nuke
The Enclave are remnants, they re still here
Legion dont relies on technology
House Stopped various nukes.....

And ITS rebuilding, they need to do that, even in Fallout 3 people are rebuilding

This term is used since the Interplay days of Fallout

Might want to double check your facts. The BOS Nuked the NCR's gold reserves, causing their currency to devalue.

The Unity got Nuked in Fallout 1 basically twice. The Enclave got nuked in Fallout 2, the Enclave got blown up by a giant nuclear robot in 3.

Also I said massacred, too.

The Legion are trying to act like an old-old world civilization. The NCR is a democratic country similar to the Old US with all the awfulness included. The Enclave in NV are just old dudes who kept their equipment when the Enclave was..you guessed it.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHGRcdq0x9A

-"War, war never changes." The intro says it all. Mankind will kill itself with nukes and power armor over oil and rocks and spears for food after the bombs.
