What makes the PC version of Crysis 2 better than the consol

Post » Sat Jan 03, 2009 10:58 pm

So, here is a list of what the PC has over the consoles

1. Specs. Here is the specs list for the PS3

7 Core processor at unknown speeds (My guess is at around 2.8GHz to 3.20GHz?)
512MB RAM (Yuck)
Blu-Ray
Your typical HDD

And the Xbox 360's are even less. Thus, the PC will have a far happier time running the game at MAXIMUM EPICNESS

2. Controls

The PC has a keyboard. Need I say more?

3. Sandbox

Have you forgotten? The PC will undoubtedly have a far more featured sandbox (Map editor, maker?).

4. Mods

So, the one thing a console will not be able to do what the PC can do is Mods. This is the biggest UP (Besides hardware) for the PC. Downloadible uploadible mods will lead the way :)

5. Console Commands :)

Must I say more?

So, PC fans, don't think that CryTek has forgotten you. The console games are for those of us who cannot pay for an epic PC... yet.

In other words... CALM DOWN!

P.S. No, I don't work (Or get paid to write this) for CryTek

Actually, The PS3 has a cell processor with 8 cores.

I thank god that there are still people in these forums who have faith that crysis 2 will be awesome.

First off, you are wrong. A processor is made up of multiple cores. Thus the name, Computer Processor Unit or Computer Processing Unit, I forget. Either way, that leads to the second thing. It's CPU, not SPU

Sorry, I must not have made myself clear enough. The cell CPU (central processing unit) consists of ONE physical CORE with 8 SPU's (stream processing units. Actually, nvm, they are called SPE's or Synthetic Processing Elements).

I don't really know that much about the cell, but this is the general idea behind it. Although the cell only has one real "core" it it's SPE's allow it to compute appropriate tasks in parallel. Thus, even though it has one core, the cell can be made to function like a MIMD device at the discretion of the software engineer. So basically, the cell isn't a traditional "multicore" processor until the software engineers and coders decide to use it like one. That's why people still talk about the PS3's "untapped potential"

That said, with the right algorithms, even an older machine can perform blazingly fast.

PC will look and play better on higher end rigs while the consoles will run the technology to its current limits.

It boils down to personal preference in controls and price ranges. It's generally the same experience on each platform Thanks

@thehunter117 The Cell Processor

This is a 9 core processor, one of these cores is a PowerPC and acts as a controller. The remaining 8 cores are called SPEs and these are very high performance vector processors. Each SPE contains it's own block of high speed RAM and is capable of 32 GigaFlops (32 bit). The SPEs are independent processors and can act alone or can be set up to process a stream of data with different SPEs working on different stages.

Would you like some troll or some more troll?

No sir, I would much prefer some thatsonyguy1981. It's the newer kind of troll that has more of a punchy, spicy flavor, that likes to stay with you until you wash it down with a good amount of PS3 CPU link spamming. That's the stuff!

People, let us keep this on subject. Clearly I know little about Gaming System Hardware, however I do know plenty about Computer Hardware

So, back on topic. The PS3 can handle more than the 360, that's my point. And the PC (With the right hardware) can handle a much MUCH bigger load than the PS3.

I thought it was the other way around?

I mean, many games I've played on my PS3 have all got jagged edges, when playing up close, though. Only some games have some sort of aliasing technique called MLAA (http://www.realtimerendering.com/blog/morphological-antialiasing/).

I don't know about the 360 though. I don't own one, but I heard somewhere that it supports it.

Well, I was right. They have confirmed that they have only told us that there is going to be a 360 beta, and will most likely be a PS3 and/or PC beta

Im pretty sure its the other way around since the Xbox360 has the more powerful GPU of the two systems. When i play on my PS3 once in a while, i notice tons of jagged edges, no good.

All I care is that crysis 2 will be as huge leap as crysis 1 was, which it seems when looking at the technical features.

As a game I want similiar SP, yep, I loved it, hated the statham movie that I was watching when "playing" warhead, if I want to experience movie I'll watch one but let me do the cool stuff, devs were just showing off how cool their artistic skills are.

For mp, well i dont really care, it's gonna fail anyway, 20x20m map with some leveling, great, sounds interesting.... wait, crysis 1 maps were like 1000x1000m and THAT IS AWESOME, ok?

Also my gtx 480 is probably more powerful than ps3 or xbox 360 is, so you guys at crytek better make sure I get to use all of that with my quad core cpu, i'm not happy about going multiplattform, not because console gamers can have their joy, because that often leads to diminished experience here at PC side, which is the gaming plattform and always will be.

Anyway, in the end everyone will crawl back to developing to PC because of the demand, and that is what determines everything.
