what is a metal cover plate

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 12:10 am

I bought a new graphics card for my computer and it won't fit. I searched it up online and it said I have to remove a metal cover plate if I have a acer desktop PC, which I do. I bought a HD 4650, and if it helps, the slot is green on my computer. So, what is a metal cover plate???????? HELP

It's probably talking about the plate covering the slot in the back of the computer. Is it the card itself that wont fit in the computer, or is it that the plate is covering the slot it's supposed to go in?

Edit: And I don't mean the slot on the motherboard.

If so there is a screw you can unscrew.

It'd be best if you gave us pictures. Those metal things cover up the slots in the back of your computer case that you have to put the back of your card in. They shouldn't be green, unless you're talking about the slot on the motherboard. If it doesn't fit in THAT, then you have a problem.

If you've tried the slots and it doesn't fit, I'm pretty sure you are. Maybe you can return it and buy one that's compatible?

Newegg is good about this. You may have a restocking fee hit, but they should take it back. Especially if you are going to buy another one. Give them a call or send them an email.

Just make sure you have all the stuff that came with it to send back to them.

Since you have moved your conversation about this to another thread, I will close this one for you.
