What might cause fog to suddenly vanish?

It happens fairly often and I find it annoying. I'll be walking along in heavy fog and then between one frame and the next everything is suddenly clear.

This reminds me that sometimes I go through one door in IC where it is raining then suddenly the other side is fog or clear with me using AN.

I haven't gotten around to tackling that problem.

I don't know if it'll work for you, but disabling the 'weather unsticker' in the streamline ini worked for me.

"Streamsight" - most likely , try turning that feature off in Streamline..

Make sure Enhanced Weather.esp is version 1.40 Version ..seem to remember "fast fog was a bug in 1.3.5 version which you are using "- seem version number on esp was never updated to reflect 1.4.0 ..so check to make sure once again..

Yeah I'm using version 1.4... I guess I'll try turning off streamsight and see what that does to my performance... may be that the cure is worse than the disease...

You seem to know what you're doing, but are you sure you have the Streamline_3dot1_Open_Beta Patch? I remember this happening with earlier versions of Streamline, but it happens very seldom since the latest verison for me, and I'm using Streamsight as well. Once upon a full moon I get fog settings that are off after fast traveling or going from an interior to an exterior - which is fixed by saving/reloading for me.

I have the patch in my mod folder, and I'm pretty sure I installed it again (ended up reinstalling all my mods a couple weeks ago)... it doesn't help that the patch's esp and everything else are the same size and have the same dates as the original... eh, I'm pretty sure I did because I would move the mods to another folder as I installed them.

What's your settings for Streamsight? If changing uGridDistantTreeRange and uGridDistantCount in the ini you need to bring up the Streamline menu and get new min/max fog settings. Perhaps changing FogUpdateFrequency will help? I've always had it on default, but I guess it might differ depending on rig.

Also, I'd try making a clean save w/o Streamline and then add it again.

I've got the min/max settings right according to the included chart. I had the two ini values set to 13 and recently upped them to 20... and reloaded the sl.ini ingame of course. It's kind of hard to test the issue while changing settings and such because its so sporadic.... well, I've got to get to bed tonight. Thanks for all your help.

edit: I've been sort of under the impression that changes made ingame in the Streamline menu don't stick when you reload, and permanent changes must be made in the ini (read that somewhere). Is that true?

I make changes via the ini and the reinitialize it via the menu. I guess making them ingame might not stick if you don't get a functioning quit, much as changing settings ingame for the Oblivion.ini don't stick if the game crashes on quit (which is always does for me). Might be fixed by the saveini command - but not 100% that it saves changes to the Streamline ini as well, but I think I recall that it should.
