What Mods From Oblivion/Morrowind Would You Like For Skyrim?

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 8:29 am

I think its way way way to early to discuss mods, mods are reactionary, that is they happen after the game is done in response to the games flaws or things that gamers think the dev team left out.

I know what I don't want...
All those anime and six mods.
It sickens me and makes me wonder why someone would want to force that in a great game like TES.

I sincerely hope that Skyrim's modding community won't be based on this, like it has been for Oblivion.

Odd.

I can only think of maybe four or five actual "six" mods for Oblivion.

Unless you're considering companion mods that have "romance" dialogue (like Romancing Of Eyja), or overtly revealing Frazetta/Royo/Vallejo style clothing mods & bodies, to be six mods.

Also, by "anime" do you mean all clothing mods that look like the stuff you'll find in Asian RPGs & MMOs, or just the ones that actually copy outfits from animated shows? And Square-style hair mods....

Because, honestly, trying to lump all that stuff together under "anime" is kind of pushing it.... if you're looking for a single blanket term, Asian would probably be more accurate (still not completely accurate, but hey.... :))

--------

Original topic:

I'm going to have to see how the base game is before I have any ideas about gameplay mods that might be useful (since I don't have any "MW or Bust!" predisposition to "no compass" "no fast travel" etc mods...) And the in-game bodies look pretty good so far, so I don't necessarily see any obvious need for a body replacer.

More hair, eyes, skin textures, and pretty clothes will be a definite, though. Gotta look your best. :D

All of this after the first, unmodded, play, of course.

obviously ill be using open cities :)

I'm hoping based on descriptions Todd gave during a couple of interviews that an OC mod won't actually be necessary. If they use a streaming load system like in Witcher 2, it won't be.

If we get stiffed with the same kind of closed cities we have in Oblivion though, then count on it being dealt with swiftly.

Do you reckon anyone will do a Solstheim mod with associated quests?

Someone is bound to. It would certainly be cool.

I'm really hoping for TES5LODGen.

From the look of things that's not going to be necessary. If it is though, I wouldn't count on it. The changes just from OB to FO3 in how LOD worked were enough to make it impractical. Since Skyrim is on a new engine entirely, there's no way to know how it gets generated. If we're lucky the engine will do all that on the fly so we won't need to fix it ourselves.

Mods I will use eventually are:
1.)high res textures
2.)fcom type mod(or an ooo/mmm/frans type mods)
3.)open cities
4.)new weapons/armors(that's until a great #2 mod comes out that has all these in it already)
5.) UI mod (if skyrims vanilla is good, then imagine what modders can add/change to make it better :))
6.)mods that add quests
7.)mods that change spawns, add larger mobs/new creatures, change leveling of the world etc(again, until #2 comes out that has all of this)
8.)better npc's bodies and faces

Basicly I'll get mods that together accomplish what ooo/mmm/frans did for oblivion, until some great modders make a giant mod that has all those thugs in one package.

Bobs armory since there can never be too many weapons.

Midas magic.

and some vampire/warewolf/gaurd/prison overhaul mod since they will never make it perfect.

I know that so far Skyrim's magic system seems cool, but I would like to see a new Midas Magic mod for Skyrim. Midas Magic for Oblivion definitely made being a magic user more interesting and fun to play. Shape shifting should be something available to vampires and high level magic users. If there will be no shape shifting available for vanilla Skyrim, then a mod for that would be awesome. A diversity mod for weapons and armors would be nice if not already incorporated into Skyrim. There was such a mod for Oblivion that had weapons for each race and if a race member is using weapons made for his/her race, he/she would get some small bonuses.

@hlvr
Although everyone is entitled to their own opinions about mods, I don't see any problems with people wanting to mod their TES game into a style that they like. Is it really that difficult to just ignore the mods you don't like? No one's forcing these mods down your throat. You don't have to download any mod you don't like. It's already a good thing that modders even share their works with the TES community. What makes it sad is when people such as you with prejudice attitudes toward particular mods, try and berate other modders or their works. People from Japan obviously are more into anime style stuff than most Americans, so it's obvious they'll probably create anime style mods to suit their tastes, whereas America modders would probably work on mods with western style.

So many things come to mind. I was (and still am) so excited about Skyrim initially because it felt like all my favorite mods were being put into this more advanced game. They seem to have taken a lot from Deadly Reflex, their cities look to be closer to Open Cities, there are some stunning environments (ala unique landscapes), and the people are definitely to my liking so far. It was only recently that I really got into quest mods, though, and I realized that my favorites wouldn't be incorporated into the vanilla game. I was a bit sad for a moment, but then I got into courage wolf mode and decided that this was my reason for being.

But I do digress. Essentially, I've been putting together a synopsis for a gigantic quest mod and I'm moving into the more detailed structure of things (dialogue, stages). What I've come to see, though, that relates to what a few people have said is that I can't finish anything until I play through the game. It's gotten to the point where I've become overwhelmed by how different from Oblivion everything can be. What powers will modders be granted under this engine? It's driving me a 27% insane, and that's why I wanna give a bit of advice. Speculation, fantasies, and planning are all fine things, but be careful. Your brain just might explode.

Good day.

Open cities, natural environments (can always use more weather patterns), graphical overhauls and UI mods are my essentials.

Can I mod? No, but I am very thankful to those who have those skills.

Apophis armory of the silver dragon was awesome and i'd love to see a skyrim version, reznods mannequins and i'd like to see a falmer race mod (always seemed a cool idea for this game)

Different game, different mods.

A sequel to Nehrim would be awesome, but I don't blame SureAI if they choose not to do anything for Skyrim. Nehrim was a huge project. Jumping straight into another completely new project so soon might be a bit much to ask.
