What's More Important to you Spears or Mounts?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:24 am

I don't really want mounts, especially mounted combat. Not because it is bad, but because it so dramatically alters all combat. Look at mount and blade, everyone would be riding a horse and charge-retreat all the time. It just doesn't fit.
Spears don't, so I would choose spears. The other options ruin the poll.

Mounts, hands down. Even without mounted combat, I'd happily sacrifice Bitter Mercy, Muatra, and all the spears of the world(...) for [wolf, boar, mammoth, horse] mounts.

They add a great deal to the fun of exploration for me.

I'm sure most of the people who voted for Spears haven't played Mount&Blade or Red Dead Redemption. Proper Horses and Mounted Combat are an inevitability.

Funny thing, I play infantry in Mount&Blade. Not to mention spears/lances are pretty much an integral part of mounted combat.

Anyways, I never used mounts in Oblivion, for a few reasons. Those could very well change if they were implemented well and if Athletics was dropped as a skill.

However, I have a hard time imagining taking on monsters the likes of dragons without a spear or lance. Given the size of dragons, a sword or hammer would not be my first choice for fighting one.

I would rather have transport systems like ships and large creatures than mounts, the horses in oblivion died in like 5 hits on NORMAL and when you rode past creatures they aggro'd on the horse instead of the player. I used a targeted heal on my horse so much, and stood in the way of arrows/magic spells to keep it from dying but if 3 creatures aggro'd on it I would need to ride until they lost interest or my horse was dead and I had to rely on *shudder* fast travel.

Spears should be in the game, they are one of the most basic weapons... on top of that 1h weaps have 4 different classes (axe, mace, sword, dagger) and the ability to choose magic, shield or dual wield in the OH... but people using 2 handers only get 3 choices with no offhands. I think that axe/mace/sword 2h should also have good AOE swipes/whirlwinds while the spear is more of a single target/keep the enemy at range weapon.

I don't see any reason to why we would have to choose between spears or mounts.

I'm not voting! How do I know that by mounts you don't mean just horses

If mounts could be done to be on par with horses from Red Dead Redemption? Mounts certainly.

If not? I'd just rather them keep on polishing what they are already doing. Such as figuring out how to combine spells on the fly.
