What movies will you watch...

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:18 am

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387541/ aka Curse of the Ring, Ring of the Nibelungs, Sword of Xanten, and Die Nibelungen.

An excellent movie starring Benno Fürmann. Max von Sydow has a pretty big role in this movie too, so WATCH IT.

I'll also be watching Conan the Barbarian, and a guilty pleasure of mine called http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0338769/

I almost forgot about http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0896816/, I'm going to watch this too cause, you know, it has forests...and KILLER GRIZZLY BEARS!
I really wish I had forgotten about Grizzly Rage

I highly recommend you all to watch "The 13th Warrior". It's a great medieval movie with a viking theme.

Another really comparable movie, a new one, is "Outlander". It's about an alien (who looks like a human) that crash lands on Earth during the reign of the Vikings. Along with his arrival, he brings a deadly alien predator; who he calls to be a dragon. :)

Both are very good, I think. Personally, I'm not sure which one I like the most.
See both.

Is Outlander more credible than The 12th Warrior in terms of depicting Norse people? I see this alien thing doesn't look like it, but the other movie was very much off, albeit the story was somewhat more plausible.

Edit 1: Nevermind. I just looked it up: NOPE. I saw it within the sec.

Edit 2: With Ron Perlman?! Yay.
It says "Beowulf" meets "Predator" lol.

I don't care much for riding dragons in the game, but Eragon was another movie I enjoyed

Oh dear. That movie was just.... awful.

I don't EVER troll and I very much enjoy the Zemeckis version of Beowulf. Give me a better version and I will watch that and get back to you on it's faithfullness to the original story.

Even the Christopher Lamber version was better than that trash. I think you should read the original poem before making judgement on a particular version's authenticity. The character itself is nothing like the real Beowulf. Its like doing an autobiography about MacArthur and basing it on Liberace. Actually, I'd pay to see that. He could threaten to nuke the Chinese troops whilst in full stage make-up...

Is Max Von Sydow an actor? Recommend me some of his movies.

The Seventh Seal, Egg! Egg! A Hardboiled Story (If you can get your hands on it), The Apple War (could also be hard to find outside Sweden), The Exorcist.

Nah, you have to listen to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bn1ct1xomoY, authentic Viking music. I'll probably listen to them as I play Skyrim.

Edit: just linked it myself.

I'm sorry, but that's probably as long away as you can get from authentic vkíking music. No documentation of it has survived anyway.

It's weird; apart from a few exceptions, I really don't like the fantasy genre in anything else apart from videogames  I might rewatch the LOTR films I suppose. I can't even work up enthusiasm for that post-Oblivion book, even though I love the TES games. I've never watched Conan the Barbarian though, so I might look it up.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068182/ "Anyone who even thinks about deserting this mission will be divided into 198 pieces; those pieces will be dissolved; whoever takes one grain of corn or one drop of water more than his ration, will be imprisoned here 155 years... If I, Aguirre, want the birds to drop dead from the trees... then the birds will drop dead from the trees... I am the wrath of God. The earth I pass will see me and tremble."

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0052365/ You cant beat Ernest Borgnine, Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089469/ Cant beat Tim Curry as Satan, includes a super young Tom Cruise.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063227/ Peter O'Toole, Katharine Hepburn, Anthony Hopkins, John Castle, Nigel Terry, and Timothy Dalton... how cant it be good?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057877/ O' Toole again, this time as King Henry II, Pete should of won an Oscar for this one.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050976/ Arguably Bergman's best movie and its got Max in it.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059896/ Heston as a knight? Sure, why not?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0029850/ The Battle of the Ice scene has inspired epic battles in movies from Spartacus to Braveheart. Its all commie propaganda, but its pretty good.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089457/ How do you beat Rutger Hauer, Michelle Pfeiffer and a young, still in style Mathew Broderick? You have a terrible score in an excellent fantasy movie.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0245844/ One of the better versions IMO. It does take some liberties, but Guy Pierce as a bad guy? Yes please.

I could keep going but I'm tired of linking and such. You also have all the major ones previously mentioned; Braveheart, 13th Warrior etc.

LadyHawke! I haven't seen that one in ages.
Let's not forget some of the lower brow versions:
Barbarian Brothers, Sword and the Sorcerer (starring Bull from Night Court as the sorcerer), no one mentioned Red Sonja, Fire and Ice (animated)

One person mentioned Outlander, a great movie and there must be a good Beowulf film out there? Haven't seen the animated but wasn't too impressed with (any of) Christopher Lambert's work. Outlander features a great scene where a Viking fights with two war hammers, one in each hand. Should get someone warmed up for Skyrim.

Because of this thread, i hired Conan the Destroyer (couldn't find Conan the Barbarian) and i liked it. I will have to find the other one now. Reminded me of those old kung fu movies. I laughed when he turns around and face plants into the tall dudes armor. Also Beowulf and Grendal which i haven't seen yet tho i have seen Beowulf.
