What multiplayer gamemodes can we expect?

Post » Sun Jan 09, 2011 3:01 am

Oviously I have been really looking forward to hooking up with other people online and completing the ridiculous amount of capmaing driven objectives that are speculated. But I have been recently moving more and more torwards multiplayer and competitive play and I was wondering what modes will online mode allow me to play. Like Deathmatch, capture the flag, free for all, king of the hill, or even progressive objectives.

There aren't game modes like that, it's all objective-based (although different objectives will be played out differently).

Other than the campaign there are two other options I believe, you can play a single map twice with the two teams switching and I believe you can play the maps individually.

Its more along the line of progressive objectives but Donner is right. For example Container City with Resistance defending and Security attacking.

Security muse:

Blow the gate with HE charge
Escort robot to crane
Activate Crane
Continue escort and defend while robot opens door
Grab intel and take to the sub

End mission

Sounds so simple, yet it's not

"In every Brink mission, you’re a member of an eight-man team, tasked with doing a wide variety of military objectives (rescue, search and destroy, infiltration, you name it, the list goes on and on). If you play by yourself, you’ve got seven AI buddies who are all capable of making their own decisions and doing every single action you can do. If your friends come online and want to join you mid-mission, they can jump in and replace one of those AI squaddies with their own custom character - and bang you’re playing co-op. And yes, this means you can have a full eight man co-op session. You’re all tied together through a dynamic mission system that automates communication and keeps everyone working towards the same goal."

While these gamemodes don't exist on their own in Brink, they will all be represented in a fashionable matter. You will have to kill people, you will have to take objectives from poiny a to b, you will have to blow certain things up and these explosives will be defusable.

Thanks REVOLUZZER, its seems incredibly interesting. And from what Im reading it kinda reminds me of playing big team capture the flag on Reach (No offense intended). Where we as a team coordinate to do what we should. But what kinda makes me sad is my friends are as close minded as can be when it comes to gameplay. If they aren't quick scoping and wasting an entire clip on an enemy, they won't have a good time. thats why I kinda wanted it to have some relatively straight forward modes. A guy can dream :cryvaultboy:

I actually take no offense into that as long as you don't compare BRINK to CoD. Plus I think Reach is better than CoD imo.

I actually think they cut a lot of that mission out. I assume it's a lot longer than that.
OT: I would imagine that every map has different objectives and "modes" that are unique to that map, it being a linear story based FPS.

No it's not longer. This all sounds simple, but is really difficult in reality. SD maps have typical 2-3 main objectives. First one is to blow up the gate, second to escort the bot and repair the crane to continue escorting, third to grab obj x and take it to the helo (don't think it's a sub).

Wasn't there a ''Security'' mission where the Resistance had taken a founder as hostage? This could be a escort mission, with the Resistance being able to ''kill'' or ''knock-down'' the hostage, so a Medic must revive him, that could be pretty fun, yeah!

I think the lack of stats, leaderboards, kill cams, theatre mode etc will put off some players who now expect these things

To be honest, I wouldn't mind a ''statcard'', but I don't need it

And maybe some people will get scared off by the lack of this ''statcard'', yeah

It sounds unique with the objective based gametype and will stop people camping for kills etc. The way there is many different ways you can come about the objectives which is what iwll make it good i think,

Every mission has its set of "core" objectives. In order to help complete each "core" objective there are "side" objectives that you can complete. These "side" objectives can range from CTF style missions to any other form of "classic" shooter game types. The closest thing I can think of to this would be KZs game mode where it switches up objectives on you throughout the game, the only difference is there could be multiple game types going on all at once. You could have 2 guys trying to do the main objective while someone els is off blowing up a short cut( arming a bomb and defending it ala Counter strike) taking over a command post( territories or domination type game mode) 2 more people off just killing people( so death match style) one interogating someone to get radar support( kinda like getting a UAV) etc.

I used examples from CoD since alot of people know those.

Its pretty much a big mish mash of game types all at once which honestly for the more thinking man type players with so many different things going on at once its like a dream come true. Plus with the objectives created on the fly it could be very fun.

Multiplayer is essentially campaign online, with the enemy team being actual players.

Free for all doesn't fit in the game with the classes and the bodytypes. The whole concept of the game is based around TEAMwork and OBJECTIVES. If there was free for all I would go heavy, sit in a corner hiding behind a turret or healing myself as medic or keeping myself resupplied and pray n spray. (Aka Brainless gaming)
