i usually play my first couple times in a shooter w/o music, but even with music i can still hear gunshots and nearby footsteps.
my music of choice for ANYTHING is TECHNO, so TECHNO will be my music choice

When i first start the game, each level (incl. what-if's) will be played without my music, until I've beaten the entire game on both sides or until i get bored (fat chance lol).
After that though it will be:
Flobots
Rise Against
SOAD
Serj (Elect The Dead Album)
Adema
Avenged Sevenfold, Powerman 5000, and Breaking Benjamin (very little though of these)
some of the songs off of the WET OST and the Tron: Legacy soundtracks
