Right now I listen to the game score. I used to listen to Rammstein for some reason.

I couldn't see myself listening to anything other than Jeremy Soule's soundtrack for Oblivion.

It's incredibly relaxing to hear whilst frolicking through Cyrodiil.

the soundtrack that already comes with it. For some reason I rarely listen to music when gaming, it distracts me and it's annoying if I can't hear when NPC is trying to say something or there's a cut-scene.

Nothing...Even the in-game music it turned off.

Why? Because they don't have radios in 3E433 Cyrodiil.

All I hear is the wind in the trees, the gentle rain on the cobbles and screams of dismemberment.

With other games I sometimes listen to other music. For example Belinda Carlisle while playing Doom, or White Zombie while playing Hexen. But would never dream of playing Oblivion to anything but the original soundtrack.

The only additions I have made to my music folder are some silent MP3s to break up the music score from time to time so that it is not constantly playing.

Other than that, the music remains as it is. This game is atmospheric, not cinematic, so no extra music for me.

I enjoy the vanilla soundtrack too much to switch or listen to other music while playing. Though I do wish there were more fanfares like the main title.

I listen to the main Oblivion music, but have also added Morrowind's soundtrack, the soundtrack to the Morrowind Rebirth Mod, and select tracks from the Game of Thrones soundtrack.

Oblvion soundtrack turned down fairly low and all the ambient sounds turned up high. I've got things adjusted to have the music as background, but still hear every bird chirp and footstep.

I love Jermey Soule's music and could not imagine any replacement. I have, however, added some instrumental tracks to my music folders that mesh fairly well with Soule's tracks. Some of the artists whose tracks I use:

Spiral Dance
The Wyrd Sisters
Gabrielle Roth and the Mirrors
Medi?val B?bes
Gaia Consort
Wendy Rule
Elaine Silver
LotR soundtracks
Loreena McKennitt
Hecate's Wheel

In practice, I tend to alternate between listening to in-game music and turning in-game music off. Even with extra tracks the ingame music can get a little repetitious. At that point I'll turn it off for awhile and listen to ambient sounds. After awhile I begin to miss Jeremy Soule's music and turn it back on. And the cycle continues...

But I can't imagine ever listening to rock music while playing Oblivion. Rock music is the last thing I want to hear while exploring a quasi-medieval landscape.

None.

With 'serious' RPGs my general practice is to turn off 'soundtrack' music as part of the install / setup process. (Environmental music, such as there is of it, is another matter.) Oblivion was an exception. I like it music track very much. So much I left it enabled my entire first play-through and on into the beginnings of my current play-through. I even added in a some downloaded 'authentic' medieval music.

My immersionistic sensibilities eventually caught up with me. Enough was enough. At some point this play-through I pulled the plug and never looked back. At first I still heard the music track in my head, whether I wished it or not. My inner orchestral eventually faded into oblivion...pun not intended. At that point I found the game's rich environmental sounds ample compensation.

The only thing other than the original score I have is O Fortuna.

I stuck it the battle music folder and was awestruck the first time I ran up to the Kvatch Oblivion Gate and that track start playing just as I went rushing in with the few remaining guards. It was totally random and could not have been more appropriate.

Me too. I don't even have the game music on. ;) I'd rather not be alerted to the presence of an enemy. The only time I turn the game's music on is when I'm in a rich person's house (Umbacano) or in a castle. I figure there could be some unseen magical music device hidden somewhere. These folks got money, after all, right?

This. It feels great. I do the same with Morrowind. I love the music and love to hear it but not when I'm playing.

The game's music itself? I know, it's not that original but it works perfectly.
