So what names have been recorded?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 7:00 am

the recorded names feature sounds pretty cool and could go down well (even if it may just be codsworth), however i am slightly worried that the name i plan on using, Asher, won't be recorded, and was wondering what you guys think will be the alternative, if your name hasn't been recorded?

^Yep

According to the Quakecon thing, Mr. [censored]face will be available. If that's in the game, but Asher isn't.... well.... you'll have to change your name to Mr. [censored]face.

Edit: Oh, forgot about the censorship... Ah well, google it if you can't figure it out.

Apparently McFly is in, as is F***face as well as Andrea.

There will probably be a number of amusing names recorded if F***face made it in.

I tried looking for 1000 most popular names, but all I can find are baby names per year, or else from like the 1890's.

I found a decent US stats site that gives how popular the name is, for the US.

This is a guess, but I expect around 500 of those names will be the most popular American names, given the publishing company.

Then I'd expect a range of the most popular international names matching the game's anticipated sales footprint.

Then I'd expect a range of funny, lore appropriate or sci-fi genre or popular '50's' names that aren't in the top 500.

So: 'Andrea' is to be expected.

I'm sure there are other sites, but

http://howmanyofme.com/search/

has that as the 156th most popular name.

As for 'Asher', I wouldn't hold anyone's breath on that one.

As an example, just randomly picking a few first names from Fallout 3 (assuming they were not more likely to get included anyway)

You'd likely get:

  • James, Catherine, Sarah, Bryan, Leroy, Billy, etc

But you be unlikely to get:

  • Evan, Shorty, Moira, Jericho, Clover, Cherry, etc

I can't believe that this game will ship with Mr. [censored] Face as a viable name lol.

Voice actor probably came home feeling dirty one day if he had to record a bunch of variations of curse words one after another.

I find this quite revealing in respect to the mental state/age of their target audience. *looks around the forum* *shrug* You know who you are ! :)

Actually, Brian T. Delaney swore during the two interviews he's given, so he wouldn't go home feeling dirty at all...

Meant it more jokingly and as a reference to the robot's actor. Though I wonder, did they record snippets of specific sounds that can be stitched together into words for the more odd names?

I wonder what database Bethesda looked up to retrieve 1000 of the most popular names. Considering that my name, Amir, is randed #212 of the most popular USA male names on Nameberry.com , I would be ecstatic if my name ends up being in the game. I am not sure of the validity of the website however.

[censored] face is quite a common name that's banded around here, I for one am happy they used resources including it.

Leon's my characters name. I hope he's in.

Not a deal breaker if the bot can't say his name, and based on my plans so far he'll be more of a guardsman butler for my new hometown instead of the wasteland wanderering companion.
