What new races do you want?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 12:36 pm

I would like either dremora or some offbreed I mean remember notes on racial phyloginy dremora have been known to [censored] passer-bys and its been said they're have been children though none confirmed lol, I just think it would be cool to have a dremora/dark elf hybrid...pointy ears, horns affinity for being an A** to other races oh and the fire resistance.

But then again I do see all those mods people have with wings, horns, tattoos etc and I guess I just think that stuff like that is cool to roleplay I mean look at the Kameal in lineage 2 they look cool.

I personally think it would be a cool roleplay to be the bastard son of a dremora dark elf union shunned by the masses and hated for having the same blood as those who engaged in the oblivion gate crisis 200 yrs ago but having genetic similarities with elves (and dremora) which have a longer life span than the other races then being that your mother was one with dovakin blood and the fate of Tamreil in the balance the people have no choice but to realise the one they shunned and hated for so long is their only chance for survival....But thats never gonna happen sadface sad sad face...

If Falmer are in the game, I'd actually prefer them as an unplayable race until at least the first expansion.

Get to know them before you try to be one.

Sloads. Too slow you say? Levitation and teleportation.

We really only have 5 races:

Humans
Elves
Argonians
Khajiit
Orcs

Edit: above already said

That's only 4 races. Orc = Orsimer, which are Mer just like the Altmer, Dunmer, Bosmer, long-lost Dwemer, etc...

Although I do agree with splitting the beasts out as "Furries" and "Scalies."

Personaly I'm happy with the 10 we've got, I'd rather they just made each race more unique and different. I think Todd actually said something to this effect in an interview.

None, I want it to remain the original (Not counting Arena and Daggerfall) 10 races.

I confess I've thought it'd be cool to include at least one Sload NPC. That race has SO MUCH potential, and still we've only seen one of them (N'Gasta) since the times of Daggerfall.

A cynical, dark-humorous Sload merchant in Skyrim, protected with a permanent Frost Shield, and using Levitation all the time. That'd be awesome.

There is already 10 unique races. There should be something for everybody. I don't get it, how can people possible want more? When will you be satisfied? I am sorry but i am just a little offended on Bethesdas behalf. What other Single player roleplaying game give you so many choices?

I am completely fine with the Imperials, Nords, Bretons, Redguards, Khajiits, Argonians, Altmers, Dunmers, Bosmers and Orcs. What i really want, is for Bethesda to explore them and their differences even more, make them more unique and different from each other.

Exploring the differences of the current races would be the best option... as long as they don't "differentiate" them by making Bretons nothing but Wizards. I hate the Imperial race. They should have stayed Breton Knights.

Falmer would make a certain amount of sense, both as an extension of a previous quest and due to location (plus potential for a DLC), but the base ten is most likely.

I agree.
The only other race I'd like to see in the game is the Falmer.
As an unplayable race, for sure. Up until an expansion is released, or maybe have a built in mechanic that only allows you to play as one after you complete the main quest (on the highest difficulty or something).
Though, personally, I would really love to see some Akiviri serpent-vampire things. I forget what they're called (the ones that are confused by shields). They would make great enemies, especially as undead warriors left over from the last Akiviri invasion.
I can also see how some subclasses of Argonian and Khajiit would be good, since there are many different kinds.
Other than these few ideas, I like the ten races we have. Like many have said before-- most games only give you 3 or 4. Be happy with what you get.

Yeah, already confirmed to be the same ten,
and there's not a lot of options for more races.
At least not in Tamriel..

edit: Although I wonder when we'll get to actually see the other 9 races.
Screenshots and concept art so far only depict Nords.(or at least I assume they're all nords.)

Incorrect. We have one screenshot that depicts a hooded human, can't tell which race he is, stabbing a Dunmer in the stomach. It's in the Game Informer magazine article.

As for the question, NO. 10 races is perfectly fine. They should continue to flesh them out before we see the other races. Honestly, I don't want to see the other races unless they get a game of their own.
And if that happens I only what it to be after we've explored all of Tamriel (not counting arena)

I would actually select one from the start - I like playing Mer races, and right now I can't imagine any of them feeling at home in Skyrim, in any form or shape, so having a race that would fit the environment while still being Mer would be great :)

If they add races there are a certain amount of races already established in the lore I would love to see. Personally if we ever get a future game set in Akavar I would love the races there to be playable, at the very least the Tang Mo.

No worries though, with the mod tools available for Skyrim there will be plenty! Heck I might even revive my old Tang Mo custom race mod:

No new races.

Concerning Falmer. They were possibly extinct when the Nords first came to Skyrim. Wouldn't really make any sense if you could be a Falmer. I agree that it would be cool. But lore and logic-wise, I don't see it happening. I can be wrong though.
Falmer might exist deep in dungeons, forgotten... but to have them as a playable, fully interactable race just wouldn't work imo. Would cause a new problem as well: how would people act towards a Falmer? How would they act towards a race, supposedly extinct or driven away? Bethesda would have to change the lore a lot.

Falmer where not extinct - Nords fought them. There may be a small number that survived somewhere, and if they generally look like Altmer, but with silverish skin instead of gold, people may just treat them as Altmer, not understanding the diference.

Save new races for a game set in Valenwood, Black Marsh, Or the Summerset Isles(Or All Three, which would be awesome.) As Valenwood has an ecology all its own, with intelligent monkey people and Animate Plants, Black Marsh has all sorts of freaky things, and the Summerset Isles are full of things that shouldn't even technically exist created by mages.

i think its funny no one ever mentions the http://uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Imga. Realistically, they are the most likely race to be added, if they were to ever add a race. They're civilization isn't in decline. If fact, they're probably growing. (you know how monkeys are). They already exist in the lore, unlike some of the things people are coming up with. so there wouldn't be a mystery as to were they came from or why they are in the game. Unlike many other suggestions, they arn't extinct (falmer, dwemer), and they haven't tried to invade Tamriel or start any kind of war (akaviri races, sloads). Plus, it would add a new beast race to the game.

Wouldn't playing a race as an at least almost (most likely extinct, or at least dwelling in long forgotten dungeons) extinct race, who is an ancient enemy to the Nords (not first in Skyrim, but later; after the Nords were driven away), be somewhat weird to play?
I think that it would be pretty cool to play them, yes. But it just really wouldn't make any sense. I think people would see a difference between an Altmer and a Falmer. Some suggest the Rieklings were descendends from the Falmer, and they look nothing alike Altmer. Then again this isn't 100% sure of.

I'm happy with the 10 races. 10 races is A LOT :)
And they're all pretty diverse.
Cats, lizards, orcs, elves and humans. I don't think I would want any more :P

I would not want any new playable races, but I would want to have more depth in each playable race. I would really want to have the world respond to the fact that I am, for example, a Khajiit: some racist shopowners would not allow beast races, some children say that you look cute (just like their pet cat), some village people have never seen a Khajiit before and start touching your fur (I've been in Africa and have met people, mostly children, who have not seen "white" people before, and they do that: feel my hair on my head and on my arms. Imagine the difference if you're a furball Khajiit!). Some items are not suitable for your race (boots, helmets. You would have to go to a smith who can change them so they would fit for you, which does not even have to work in all cases.

However, some NPC's from Akavir or some Sload are fine to me, if there is a good reason for them to be there (and to be not killed by the people from Skyrim).

And, like I said in another threat: I really want more diverse Khajiit and Argonians: I want to choose from some (not all) of the subtypes!

Id like to see more Sload, Akaviri, Maomer and all those other weird and wonderful ES beings.
Not as a playable race, though playing a Sload necromancer would be sweet, but as NPC's.

Whaa- you mad? Most games don't give you 10 races. Most fantasy RPGs I've ever played gives you only 3-4, with some variations in between.

TES gives you 10 unique ones, with their own cool background and stuff. They can't add new races because all races are already established in the lore. Unless they want to give us variations for each race, so we would have... I don't know? 3-4 different Argonians, etc. But after all it would still count as 1 race.

Lol theres nothing wrong with a bigger variety ;) And if they make a new race it dosent mean it will make the game bad. They should include daedra as a race x)
just my opinion.

There is if it's outside of the lore. Dremora are Daedra, not a race per se. They could never be heros which is typically the focus of the main quest so this just wouldn't work.

It's not unheard of to have new races in the Elder Scrolls series though, Orcs were not originally playable for example.
