What not to do..

Guys im looking for some advice on new vegas, i played fallout 3 thoroughly and know the game pretty well but the only issue i always have is knowing where not to explore and kill people incase it messes up future quests.

So anyway i came across a place called cottonworth cove at the south east of the map a legion camp, me and boone decided to terminate every single life sign in the camp and rob it blind when i noticed that i lost karma for robbing ammo from thier storage room.

Would this mess up future quests ide like to know as i walk around alot looking for random places like the camp searchlight which i robbed blind aswell as the airport.

Any feedback will be apprecaited greatly ta

The thing about New Vegas is, your actions have consequences (or can have, unlike Fallout 3). Will you mess up quests, if you discover places and steal stuff? Probably not. Will you mess quests up if you go around killing random people? Most definitly. But you'll get the Quest Failes messages instantly, so you'll know...

Even if you haven't accepted a quest, you can still fail it if you kill an npc that is relevant for that quest. So basicly, try not to kill too many random npc's if you want to keep your quest options open.

Note that it is impossible to complete all the quests in one playthrough, because completing a quest for one side/faction sometimes automaticly fails one for another side.

yeah im pretty much pro NCR and will be BoS and am hated by the legion at the highest level already, and since im with boone he basicly opens fire at legion before i even see them approaching me so i cant see me ever completing quests for them.

Thanks ill revert back to before i got to cotton cove so i get my karma back for looting all the ammo and guns.

You don't have to worry too much about karma; you're basically guaranteed to have good karma by the end of the game because most enemies give it to you, and it doesn't really matter anyway. Also remember that Boone attacks the Legion on sight; if they don't already hate you then they won't be hostile if you don't have Boone. This is worth bearing in mind because the Legion can be a bit of a headache at low levels.
