What if one day TES becomes console exclusive?

Post » Tue Dec 14, 2010 10:35 am

One day the console makers will beat the PC market by making their products INCOMPATIBLE with PC, so that the game makers will have to make completely different games if they want to support both pc and console, effectively forcing the game makers to discard the pc market

Ok, then all that would do is mean they'd get lazy ports like the ps3 has been getting since its easier to make games on the level of the 360 than the ps3.

That reminded me of a very hurtful part of being a PS3 playing Bethesda fan. :sadvaultboy:

Simple, if TES went console exclusive they would lose a long-time fan and customer (ie. Me). I am sure quite a few of the PC players feel the same.

Since there's no confirmed modding tool released and they aren't utilizing PC's processing power, they may as well discard the PC market since they still sell very well in the console market. I think Skyrim will probably be the last TES title that supports PC, because for the next game, there will be next gen console and the consoles will have a big leap over XBOX 360's processing power. Also with all the fancy motion controllers coming out for console, Beth would be dumb not to support them, leaving PC users no options but to buy consoles.

me thinks there's conspiracy >_<

Of course that will never happen. God damnit, just registered and ive replied to two posts, the first one about turning TES in a JRPG and then an idiot who thinks bethesda will abandon the PC T_T

Games are made on PCs, so I can't see them disappearing. Also I play on xbox, and I hope that motion controllers die and disappear very soon.

We're not usually this bad. It's just that since Skyrim, everyone's ran away to that forum, and instead of the really devoted fan glee that they should be feeling, they became haters. Who will buy the game anyway.

'Tis a strange forum...

When that happens, I foresee Bethesda Studios shutting down.

If anything I see them supporting the PC community more in the future. Consoles nowadays seem more like toys than gaming machines.

Playstation - videogame platform
Playstation 2 - videogames and dvd player
Playstarion 3 - blu-ray player, stream netflix movies straight to your TV, also with the option to play some videogames on the side
Playstation Move- toy

In the meantime Indie devs and even major developers that want to push boundries go for the PC platform. Digital Distribution is on the rise, skipping out on the middleman of retailers makes it a huge success for publishers and customers. Let me know when you can download a PS4 game straight to your consoles harddrive for $20 instead of having to go out and buy a store copy for $60.

I can't see that happening. At least not in the near future. PCs will always have the edge as long as there are mods and the like and this is coming from a console gamer. Oblivion on the PC had a much longer life than the one on the Xbox. At least to me.

This. I played Morrowind on the Xbox for seven years before I finally switched to the PC version and I'm never going back. If Bethesda was stupid enough to abandon the PC (which thankfully they're not) then I would abandon the console exclusive games and just continue to play the PC versions of Morrowind and Oblivion.

What will happen if TES becomes console exclusive? I'm going to go down to my girlfriend's house and play the Elder Scrolls VI on her PS3...that's what's going to happen.

But all joking aside, that will never happen. Bethesda is a company and companies are smart enough to realize a good cash crop when they see one. Many Elder Scrolls fans buys The Elder Scrolls ONLY for the PC just to mod or mess around with using the console. If it's console exclusive, then that part of the population will NEVER buy an Elder Scrolls or Fallout game ever. Not to mention the population that only has a PC to run the Elder Scrolls on. So there would be about a....40 or so percent decrease in sales because many PC gamers gets turned off by this and maybe even boycott the games, even if they have an XBOX or PS3.

Another thing is that many newcomers to the Elder Scrolls franchise comes through by means of Youtube or other media streaming sites now. And I'm not talking about trailers, I'm talking about stuff like "Triumphant execution of the Adoring Fan" or "Let's Play Oblivion Mods" or something like that. If it's just console exclusive, then the cool console or mod effects are gone and the extreme sense of "WOW!! SO CUSTOMIZABLE AND COOL" is gone and many people would just buy the next Call of Duty instead of the Elder Scrolls.

Even though I am more of a console player nowadays (because my PC cannot run many of today's games), I do not think TES should become a console exclusive.
I have played Morrowind on the PC long ago and I had SO much fun with mods and there is such a large mod community. I do not think it is fair to the mod community (and the PC fanbase)
to all of a sudden make TES games console exclusive. After all, for many people, mods on the PC add more replayability, creativity, and ways to alter the gameplay to your liking. =)

As an exclusively console gamer who uses the xbox 360 and the wii in equal measure:

Never happen. Stop whining. Bethesda knows who got them where they are, and even though consoles are lucrative PCs aren't exactly pittance and pennies for them. Not to mention their hiring policy is "take a modding tool and make something we could ship," which wouldn't be feasible if they didn't have those tools, and since micrososft wouldn't let people use the CS for expansive mods on the xbox they would need to do the PC.

Ease yourselves and stay this madness.

It seems a bit early to conclude this
If so I'd be sorry. I have a PC, no TV, and wouldn't get one plus a console just to play 1 game on

My two cents.

If they abandoned the PC market, I wouldn't be buying their games. While I do have Fallout 3 on xbox, I wish it would have been on PC. I can't aim worth crap with the little thumb controllers---plus maybe there would be a mod that actually adds some color to the game

Not a chance. Bethesda specifically said that they're going to release the Creation Kit (Construction Set equivalent) because they value their community.
