What other games are as long as FNV?

Post » Thu Aug 23, 2012 10:09 pm

I'm curious what other games besides FNV are out there (for pc) that can you play say, 200 plus hours? I want to make a list and on this list I will already include FNV and FO3. I'm interested in other games that have long campaigns or the replay value is so high that large number of hours can be accumulated. FNV and FO3 both fit the bill.

There you have it. Any takers?

You should put Morrowind on your list if you haven't played it. I liked it more than Oblivion despite it being older and it has tons of amazing mods to improve graphics and add items and content.

I'm tempted to say Vampire: The Masquerade. Though not strictly an open world like TES and fallout games, it has open hubs which allows you to wander around at will doing side missions as well as the main ones. Because you can play as many different kinds of vampires, all of which provide a unique experience, the replay value adds up to many more hours than the game initially appears.

It's one of the few games that give you that fleshed out world you get with TES and Fallout. And like Beth games, it's full of bugs! Yeah! So if you do decide to give it a go, check out the unofficial patch (You'll find it linked in the Steam forums for that game).

It's in my top ten best games ever made ever which I'm sure means a great deal to you, not!

Try Pong: X. Its pong, but as a sandbox RPG.

I've put in similar amounts of time with Nippon Ichii RPGs, but that's mostly 'cause they involve a lot of grinding. They're not for everyone.

You could try the TES series as already suggested, or the X games. I bought X3:TC a while ago, and while it's very hard (at least for me) to get into, it's a game that some people have played for hundreds or thousands of hours.

The TES series, obviously. Dragon Age: Origins goes on a bit, especially the ultimate edition - easily over 100 hours. Getting away from RPGs, you can waste much of your life going for 100% completion in a GTA game, or even Assassin's Creed. Mount & Blade goes on indefinitely.

Regarding Vampire: The Masquerade. It was made by the same folks that made Fallout (Tim Cain, Leonard Boyarsky and Jason D. Anderson). The bugs came about because they ran out of money and were barely able to release the game before going under.

An other (I think greatly undervalued) game they made was "Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura". Like the origional Fallout, it's an isometric game, so I don't know if that's what you are after. It was another very rich world with great writing. I've never played "The Temple of Elemental Evil" which was their only other game as far as I know, but it seems to have been reviewed favourably as well.

Edit: Here's the wikipedea for Troika

I second the recommendation for Arcanum. Have you considered the original Fallout games?

Fallout 1 is fairly short but still excellent and Fallout 2 is quite large and very re-playable. I can't even imagine the time I've dumped into it.

Hmmmmmmm.......I'll have to look some of these up. Funny thing, the first single player games I played were. F.E.A.R. and Half Life 2 and I thought those were long, until I played Fallout 3 multiple times, then I went on to play Borderlands and Dragon Age Origins which are both long if you play them multiple times, on and on she goes. I'll research the games mentioned thus far, but keep the ideas coming. ;)
