"My My What Pale Skin You Have"

(I may be asking for 'next-gen' features here but anyway)...I think it would be interesting if there were a series of evolving physical 'alterations' (sunken cheeks, pale palor, a halo of flies, bloodshot eyes, smell of brimstone, etc,) for any character build that chooses to utilize any magical skills that lean towards the necromancy class of mage. Certain unmistakable 'characteristics' in turn may affect reputations with other mages and the general population and even then may determine your ability to access certain quests from the Mages Guild... I like the idea that if you use 'dark magic' that it alters you somehow...Along with that, I also wish that there were a larger amount of skills available which differentiated one type of necromancer from another (i.e. Spirit Mage vs Blood Mage vs Viral Mage, etc) much like you see with the different skills within the warrior classes (*Spellswords or Battlemages for example emphasize different skill sets than say a primarily hammer or sword-weilding tank).

What do people think about these ideas? Again, I may be asking for too much too soon here...

No.

No way in seven hells no.

Your reputation or skills should not affect your looks in any way except subtly changing your physique when you train physical skills.

Exactly.
Though I disagree with the physique changing, that would be biased toward people who play a primarily melee class. If you were going to do subtle changes, do it across the board.

@ OP: When you started saying things like a halo of flies and the smell of brimstone...no. Just no.

Keep Fable in Fable.

First of all, I don't think necromancy is something we're going to be dabbling in.

Second...hell no. If necromancy was in, I wouldn't want these kind of physical changes, which are just asinine and have no basis in the lore. Morrowind and Oblivion had secret practitioners; they wouldn't have been able to get away with it if they started attracting flies and whatnot.

I wouldn't want changes to my appearance that I can't easily control and change. It's my character, let me decide how he looks, not the game by his skills.

Comments based on skill are all I'd care for, and those got annoying sometimes. Like when I had high conjuration on my daedra Conjurer and people asked if I've been conjuring dead things. I always wanted to say "No, I'm a daedra summoner, not a Necromancer you fool...". I wish they'd say "brimstone" for a Conjurer and "dead things" for a Necromancer, though I doubt that'll happen.

It would be a nice way fore me to know to just drop the loser the second I see him, but I think that the fact his name will be "Necromancer" and he'll be wearing a black, blood-spattered robe with an orange (or possibly red) skull on it will be enough. So no.

I don't look at a necromancer's face that often because I'm either letting my fist see it more or the coward's tucked tail and ran away from me and my awesomeness.

People like to spend time crafting a character they love from the beginning and to see their appearance change depending on their choice of actions ruins it. I hated in Fable how my character turned into a 8 foot tall hulk just because I liked to swing a sword. I was happy how I created my character the way he was in the beginning.

Doesn't seem all that hard to do, tbh. Just record the number of each thing summoned.

Though it could be a nice trait for people to dislike you for Conjuration. Assuming they can smell it on you, I doubt they'd be all too happy with you summoning undead/the evil minions from Oblivion.

And perhaps sneak/security. People may be able to tell that you're a shady character. I know I've saw some of these people in my time.

Of course, they may like you in other ways to cancel out the disposition loss. Be quite happy if this necromancer saves my life/planet, if I'm honest. :)

Yeah, if they did that it would be great! People should realize if you do done shady or unethical things, but only really call you out on it if you've got a lot of infamy. After you save the world, everyone should respect you, though some might have more fear than respect of you.

I never understood why it's largely considered evil to practice necromancy but a-okay to summon up daedra from Oblivion. Maybe daedra are seen as more controlled as they can't enter the plane otherwise and relatively neutral in perspective if they don't have a leader like Dagon. But there are still about as many Conjurer forts as there are Necromancer forts, so I usually play any conjuration focused character as amoral or immoral.

If I make a character for Skyrim, obviously, I made that character because I liked the way it looks, I edited him so that he looks the way I want him to, why would I want that to change?

As long as it's done well. Instead of Fable's corniness it could be done in a subtle way, with changes that occur based on how you play. For example scars on a warrior, slimmer frame for a thief, muscles depending on strength level, etc. That way the changes would be minor enough that they wouldn't totally warp the look you wanted to make for a character. Add an option to turn it off and I think it would be a worthy addiction to the game.

Necromancy isn't evil. My good post-mortem communicator (necromancer) character will reunite people with their dead relatives and help trapped spirits take revenge on those who killed them. Surely thats better than summoning evil daedra from hellish oblivion?

More on topic I think subtle changes would be good but anything too obvious would cause the greater majority of the community to be very unhappy.

Sounds cool but IMO I would just be happy if there is any kind of joinable Necromancer faction at all. Especially if they have some cool necromancy spells and quests.

@JamSplat - there was a lot of missed opportunity with Necromancers in past TES games, in addition to summoning zombies and animating corpses there could be a lot more interesting forms of Necromancer magic involving divining, curses and illusion type spells based around working with the remains of the dead, not to mention quests.

Indeed!

Necromancy is an important aspect of magic and should not be called 'evil' simply because dead bodies are involved. Why did Traven find it necessary go Tribunal Temple on those necromancers anyway?

i think we should have more control over our physical appearance in character design but thats it! barber shops sure, tattoo shops sure, if i become addicted to skooma there should be a quest where you wander the streets giving oral six to strangers for septims,,,, im getting side tracked but no i hated in fable 2 how if you became to strong your charcter became a bulking brute that looks like a linebacker
