What platform are you getting Skyrim on?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:08 pm

That's true. Every month even.

But only two kind of people do that:

1) Enthusiasts who can afford it and that for them technology is a passion (which is nothing wrong with that).

2) Idiots.

Normal people looks for the best price/quality ratio, and waits a respectable amount of time for that "new tech" to have decent prices (techincally becoming "old tech" in the process, but totally able to run any kind of game avaliable).

Thank you.
My 2002 Dimension 8200 isnt for gaming, so about every year or so,
I upgrade the memory for internet, and music reasons.
I like to keep gaming for the console. And Internet and such for computer.
I believe thats respectable.

I believe you're terribly wrong. Beginning by having bought a pre-made computer.

1) I don't even know why do you "upgrade your memory" every year for such trivial tasks.

2) Buying a new PC per-piece would have given you a gaming-ready rig for about the same price that computer costed to you. If not cheaper.

That's the issue about not bothering to learn about PC's and their components. But well, everybody is free in this life...

Except it *is* untrue. This isn't an opinion, it is objectively untrue.

Whether you define need as "what is required to play the game at 30fps at all" or "what is required to play the game at 2560x1600 at 120fps with everything on max", it is utterly untrue, system requirements have not significantly increased in years, and 6 year old cards can still play modern games absolutely fine. There aren't even new generations of cards coming out "every few months", so your hypothetical situation doesn't even *have* an upgrade path. You don't need to upgrade every few months, you actually *can't* upgrade every few months. What you are saying is not an opinion, what I am saying are not "a few technical terms" (Is that the phrase meaning "Somebody who actually knows what they're talking about proved me wrong" these days?), you are spouting FUD. What you are saying is the equivilent of me saying: Playing on the 360 is so expensive because you have to keep buying the games because it scratches the disk, and then it'll RROD every few months so you have to buy a new one. It's objectively, and statistically, untrue.

Thats pretty much how xbox goes, Ive been through 5, every model, and all of the people I know have had the same problem.
I just think its a better investment to spend money on a gaming console, for gaming.

Now *that* one is an opinion. An opinion I disagree with, for sure, but an opinion all the same.

I must ask, though: Why? For the price of 5 xboxes you could build a PC with great components that wouldn't fail (and if they did, and for whatever reason you weren't under warrenty, it would be much cheaper to replace them)

I have a friend that works at a computer repair shop nearby and get old memory real cheap. Its not really trivial when he does it for me.
I believe the memory in this one now is around 3 years old because it still performs where id like, but the graphics card cant handle much though.

If, in the future, Id like a gaming PC, Id wait until I saw something that would last a while.
Right now Im happy with an xbox and an old PC.

If by "wait until you see something that would last a while", you refer to pre-made gaming PC's, I advice you that you're going to spend your money in something you could get for half the price if you buy the pieces separately.

And if what did you mean is "some PC component/s that would last "long"", having a little in mind your idea of "long", I advice you that you're going to wait way MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANY time....

You can configure PC game controls, you know...I've never used WASD in my life (keyboard arrows rulz).

Sorry for the delayed reply.

The mouse is a much better alternative to looking around, but I prefer moving around with a joystick instead of a keyboard.

....please don't...

To say that is like to say "I'm going to suicide by throwing myself off a cliff".

Alienware is the biggest piece of OVERPRICED crap I've ever seen...haven't you listened to me? You can build yourself a PC as powerful for nearly HALF the price!

...oh, I give up...

To buy your PC piece by piece, learning about all the PC components, selecting them and choosing carefully where to buy them. Small computer shops are ideal for that. Avoid pre-made PC's and big computer shops, as they overprice their stuff way a lot.

It takes a bit of dedication and work? Yes, but the optimal solution always involve that.

I'm building a new rig by October. I still know nothing about what it'll be, as I'm waiting to the summer to see prices, but most surely:

- Intel Sandy Bridge / Bulldozer (if avaliable) CPU.
- Geforce GTX 580.
- No less than 8 Gbs RAM.
- SSD drive, no less than 120 gbs@500/500 speed (read-write).
- SLI-ready mobo and PSU, as I plan to add a 2nd GTX 580 when I feel like it.

You must have in mind that I'm bulding a pretty powerful rig, and still I doubt I'll surpass 2000€ (I'll maybe surpass it if I decide to watercool it), while the latest Alienware is at 4000 (last time I saw it).

Impressive for sure,
Thatll be more than enough for skyrim for sure.
I respect computer gamers,
but I just like the xbox. Its convenient, and cheaper, lol
Nobody needs to be an elitist about it.
Skyrim should join the people, agree?

I would have to agree, stay far away from Alienware or any PC branded "Gaming" by dell or HP. Building one yourself is always the best bet. (I personally prefer AMD over Intel)

I agree. But once you try PC gaming, you hardly ever come back :)

Anyway, feel free to give a thought or two about what I said (building a PC piece by piece).

PS3, because, unfortunately, I am really really really really really really poor. So I don't have the money to buy a PC that's ramped up enough to even consider supporting Skyrim. But I still have my trusty ps3 so I shall be buying it for that. Besides, I like the ps3 graphics. I don't think they'll be a far shot off from PC graphics. And if anyone feels like trolling me and start arguing over whose graphics are better, then you'll get no reaction from me, because I'm well aware of the capabilities of both, and have experienced them for myself. But since I'm poor. Ps3. If I wasn't poor, probably still PS3 because I can save money not having to buy a PC that ramped up and just get it on PS3 anyway.

Sorry...had a rant there.....go about your business....I'll be in the study...
