What platform will you get skyrim for?

Post » Tue Feb 02, 2010 11:14 am

The point he is trying to make is that there is no PC for 300$ that will run Skyrim on the same settings as the Xbox 360 or PS3. I also may add that some people have personal preferences (which I know is a crime in the gaming community). Some people enjoy playing on a xbox360,some people enjoy playing on a wii, some people enjoy playing on a nintendo ds,some people enjoy playing on a nintendo 64,and some people enjoy playing on a PC.
We're all gamers here, regardless of what platform we play on.

If you can manage to build a PC for $300, it would be. I'd have to actually run through the numbers myself, and you might have to go second hand, but "console settings" are not a high goal at all. 1280x720 at 30fps mostly stable is what most PC gamers call "Time for an upgrade", not "Running the game well".

But yes - while there is no technical advantage to gaming on console, and dubious monetary gain (Even spending a few hundred dollars more, if you buy a lot of games you'll quickly break even), personal preference is not something you can argue against.

The real problem are console ports. If devs would do all the Battlefield 3-way (creating the game for PC, then dumb it down for lesser systems), everybody would be happy, and I wouldn't care less about platform bashing/threads/whatever.

And no, PC players aren't just 10% of the total. Look at TESNexus' stats of unique downloads. And Steam stats if that's not enough.

Why would Todd lie about that?

As much as i really really want it for PC, i have to get it for Xbox 360, mainly because my computer is a piece of crap and cant afford a new one within this year (due to college).

EDIT:

1) the mouse is annoying, but the keyboard is actually really useful
2) Bethesda is trying to make a deal with Sony and Microsoft to allow TES modding on console platforms
3) Todd Howard said that the max graphic settings on PC are no different to the default graphic setup on Xbox360
4) Suppose so...

Let's not turn this into a console war....but.
1) Depends on the person, I find the mouse much more accurate then a controller.
2) Yeah, Bethesda did state that they are trying to get mods on a console, however it will never be to the extent of mods on the PC. (The consoles just cant handle some of them)
3) Higher resolution. And mods to enhance visuals. A high end PC will look better then a console version.

You CAN get a PC for 300$ (Not counting Monitor, since then you would have to count the TV for the consoles as well^^) that will run Skyrim on the same settings as consoles. :P
It will even run on the same settings on a higher performance. :D

And I understand that we have different personal preferences, and I fully respect that. It was just the points he used that seemed a little off.

It's more a big exaggeration than a lie. I agree console market is greater in numbers, but not to that extent in any way, as you can see yourself if you do some math.

IF they come to consoles after all, which surely won't.

+ Console Games costs more than PC Games.
+ a TV costs more than a PC Monitor.
+ on a PC there are mods that may increase performance. (Then you can decrease the price for your PC even more.)

Personal Preference is actually the only argument for the consoles. :P (And that it may be more chill, but then again, that goes under personal preference...)
Personal Preference is also the most important argument though. :D

This is true, but you have to consider you sometimes need to upgrade your PC.

PC of course. What a silly question. How else would I use mods?

The thing is, though, what happens if you don't? Oh, you have to turn the settings down. Well... they're still quite significantly higher than the console settings, because consoles *can't* be upgraded, so why is that an argument for consoles, again?

I wasn't trying to make a argument, nor was I trying to debate anything. All I was saying was is you sometimes you need to upgrade. I never said consoles could be upgraded.
All I said was is that you sometimes need to upgrade (just like sometimes for a console you may need to buy another/new controller, maybe a new harddrive, maybe another mic etc). I wasn't trying to start anything.

Yes,PCs have better graphics, mods, and can do other things besides play games etc. But some people prefer playing on consoles, that's that. I've been gaming on consoles all my life and it's what I prefer, and that's that. However if I had a gaming PC take place of my current console there is no doubt I'd play it over my Xbox 360.

It just seems silly to use "You can upgrade PCs" as a downside, though. A graphics card from year the PS3 launched will still hold its own - it may not be capable of maxing out modern games, but if we're only aiming for 30fps at low settings at 720p (at best), then we're nowhere near talking maxing out anyway. You *can* upgrade a PC. You have to if you want to absolutely have everything on full all the time. If you just want to play the games, play them well, and play them pretty, then no, you don't need to upgrade.

What we've been trying to say all along now is that you don't have to upgrade. It's an option you got, which you don't have at all on the consoles. :P
But I get that you want to play on the Xbox instead. ;)

You can play Skyrim on a PC from when Morrowind came out even, but it won't run on Maximum Settings. (Which is a lot higher than the maximum settings on the Xbox.)

It's not like you must upgrade your PC each month. If you had bothered to learn about them instead of just talking without knowing anything, you'd know.

even if it's not every month though and every year or something I never have to upgrade my 360. I have to go for a little while now though later. :gun:

And it won't - it'll look like skyrim. Playing it on xbox-era hardware is going to be really pushing it - but at the same time, you can't play skyrim on your xbox, either. A PC that could play oblivion will also play Skyrim - upgrading often is a luxury, not a necessity.

Yeah. 200 euros/dollars every 2 years to buy a new graphics card. And that only if you want to continue running games at max settings. Traumatic indeed.

lol, it won't look like Morrowind.^^
The computer will be able to run Skyrim on lower settings than maximum, which is still very high. But you are obviously just trolling, so I won't bother anymore.^^

This may sound harsh, but I think high schools should force everyone to take a "computer class" where you can learn the basics about internet browsing. office software, maybe a little gaming, and the basics about hardware. I think it's needed in this day and age, and this thread (As well as a lot of others) just go to show it.

Zaldir^: He's not trolling. He just genuinely doesn't understand. He's ~13 years old.
