What Primary Weapon Build Will You Mostly Use?

What would be really cool is if there's hybrid guns - part ballistic, part energy, so a normal bullet charged with plasma energy for example.

And I'm really hoping for a laser gun with a constantly streaming laser beam instead of being individually-fired lasers...now THAT I would use.

We haven't really seen the perk systeme enough to determine what skill/perk changes heavy guns.. Nor the main type of guns present in the game (3, for the energy weapons, was basically just an energy pistol for the first 4+ hours of the game unless you were skilled/knowlageable enough to barter for it)

But all in all im feeling a sniper rifle build; just to fit with kinda character. After i may do an up close and personal kinda gunslinger or a savage melee brute. Who knows. 400+ hours for one character is enough to keep me satisfied for the moment..

I'm going to do a strong semi-auto for long and medium range with an automatic pistol or smg for backup. I hope the smgs aren't all one handed this time, it's so annoying to see the obviously 2h smgs being one handed. Ugh!!!

I voted Guns but I'll see which weapon works best for the way I play (usually all guns blazing).

Yes we have, Size Matters is the strength level 5 perk which governs effectiveness with big guns.

If you're looking at anything like the orcz version? Nope. That skill hasnt exactly been disclosed e v e r. Maybe it just enhances accuracy with them or something while damage is determined by a small-arms/energy-weapon/explosive damage changing skill based on what type of weapon it is? Its speculation.
May very well be just a damage increase skill in itself but may not.
They (orcz) dont include a version of a person being bloodbagged, either (in the fallout intelligence video) which leads to the speculation perks/skills mayve been outright swapped..

Well there isn't a perk that seems to be for energy weapons either; the idea is that perks go by weapon category - unarmed, melee, pistols, fully auto, rifles/shotguns (possibly separate perks), explosives, and big guns...so a plasma rifle and hunting rifle would be affected by rifleman. Do you have any other explanation? I'd love to hear it, but nothing else makes as much sense so far. The perk in question here strongly resembles big guns from Fallout 3 yet there is no perk that resembles energy weapons, but perhaps you have an idea of what else would affect big guns if not the one that looks a lot like the big guns perk.

edit: And no, I'm not paying attention to orcz and I've been against that site's speculation since I first saw it. But when you say the orcz version, realize that every wiki I've seen thinks it's big guns too.

Well, theres one skill theyve never mentioned - (i cant recall the SPECIAL its under) but its vaultboy getting beamed with a green DNA like beam. May be that is what determines some form of effectiveness with some form of gun.
I mean, this games to the point where ballistic, radiation, electric, lazer, ect. Could all be seperate damage types if you believe the speculation.

I get where you're coming from but yeah, its all speculation.. I mean, this time round it looks really freakin' messed up from an outward perspective.

Energy weapons all the way. nothing beats turning enemies into piles of ash or goo.

if possible i will have a laser sniper rifle since lasers are much easier to hit distant targets with.

my ideal setup will be:

(Long range)

Laser sniper

(Mid Range)

laser/plasma rifles

laser chainguns (gattlings)

(Short range)

Plasma Scattergun (shotgun)

multi-laser rifle

All of them. I have the three archetype characters, Ranger (sniper), Battlemage (Energy Weapons) and Berserker (rapid fire weapons) so all of them get used sooner or later

Personally, i like a big, heavy hitting rifle that sounds like thunderbolt when it is fired
And pump-action shotguns.
And as i just learned today there's such a thing as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remington_Model_7600 too :hehe:

That's perception 7, and while I can't guess what else it could be it doesn't make sense to me to depict a perk for energy weapons - an outgoing skill - with a picture of a green incoming wave hitting vault boy's glowing body or anything besides holding an energy weapon. Not a really logical conjecture.

But from just watching the weapon modding part of the E3 video, there were only two types of weapon damage: energy damage from energy weapons and physical damage from weapons using bullets and melee, where plasma was half physical, half energy damage.

Well to me it all adds up, and I doubt they'd mess it up so much that it's confusing. But if strength 5 isn't big guns, which would make sense since it would require halfway decent physical brawn to handle big guns, then perhaps it's weapon handling like in Fallout 2, Tactics, and New Vegas - but, Bethesda did skip strength requirements in 3 so it's iffy.

I personally found the strenght requirement for certain weapons ridiculous. You can lug about with tons of crap but you cant hold a sniper rifle in prone with strenght 5, without taking a precision hit. Silly, because you would use anything possible to steady the weapon and you would go to a lie up position.

Well, one important detail...we've never been able to go prone in any past game. But for my playstyle, I hope we can this time around.

True but y'know, not all active skills have to be seen as "outgoing" nor do all passives have to be seen anything other.

Theres been various leaks and - even in gameplay - enemys could cause radiation damage and radiation was presumed to lower health.

But by "damage types" i meant just basic effects. Like.. Having a ballistic gun and applying electricity mod ONTOP of that which increases effectiveness with a certian type of energy, i.e; a humanoid takes more damage from an irratiated bullet, a robot with electric, ect.

Theres alot that confuses me about special aligning now.
And with all the "perk charts" out there that have either contradicting perks? Ect. It isnt any help.
To be quite honest, you're most likely right. But theres always that forethought in the back of my head - games tend to not fare the way that seems apparent.

Sorry, by outgoing I meant the player is acting upon someone else, such as striking with a bat or shooting a bullet, whereas incoming would be radiation, or being attacked. The way I was meaning to put it is that the weapon categories affect outgoing things, such as damage we do with that bat or bullet.

But I did just look at orcz and the pictures placement is correct it seems, and they make it clear which are confirmed, which are just likely, and which are total speculation. Most sites agree with each other, but I by far prefer the Fallout wikia because they don't really mess around with speculation much.

Guns,

Bolt Action rifles that resemble the Hunting Rifle

Preferably a revolver and a combat knife for backup, hope those are both in.

I prefer stealth first with something powerful to back it up.... speak softly but cary a big stick.

I prefer sniper rifles and silenced pistols but will have a shotgun and assault rifle for backup. Also some sort of melee weapon for nuisances that arnt worth the bullets.
